It was very frustrating, chasing so many little things trying to narrow down the true problem. Drove her for a little bit today, man I missed driving her...

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Lubed up the bus some. Steering box has had a nice coating of oil on it, so I know it's got a slow leak, just wasn't sure how long it had been leaking or how low it was. Found a zerk fitting to replace the fill plug and filled it up with John Deere Cornhead Grease (as recommended on the samba). Then used regular grease and pumped the front beam full until it oozed out around the seals and then pumped a little more into the spindles.
Been a couple of fire posts on the samba lately as well (both in the bug and bus sections) so I safety wired carb inlet pipe so it can't work it's way loose.
Messed around with the shifter some more. Put the old crusty shift plate back under the shifter and now have all gears where they should be . No more fiddling around to find first and second gear! Still have some chatter in first and second gear. I've adjusted the bowden tube a couple of times with washers, but it didn't get any better so I'm going to get a new bowden tube and see if that helps at all.

Helped Jack fix the axle seals on his Ghia and then got Pippi's turn signal issue figured out.

Cooler drive back up interstate at 70MPH shows 4-5 PSI improvement to both numbers.

Not that it matters, but those pop outs were from my 64.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well, had fun tonight. My brake light fuse blew a couple of times so I needed to figure out what wrong. Started by disconnecting the harness to the brake light switches after finding a short in the system at the fuse box with a meter. Find the short in this portion so I disconnect the plugs at the brake switches, still a short. ??? So now I pull the harness out from between the panels in the car and cut the sheath off thinking I am going to find a pinched or melted wire, nope. Scratching head at this time. I then pull back the boots over the brake switch connectors and find that they have enough dirt in them that all the hard rain got this soaked and caused a short. Cleaned and now packed with dielectric grease to stop it from ever happening again. Good times!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Looks good Pete!
I finally fixed Java today. Last time I drove it I almost burned it down. The choke wire came loose and grounded out and melted itself along with coil wire all the way to the switch. Anyway I pulled the main harness today and stripped the wrap and inspected the wiring. Only wire messed up was the coil wire. So I pulled a new wire, wrapped everything back up, pulled it back through the car and wired everything back up. Onto the next broken dub!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Had some issues with my black foam float in my h30/31, I replaced it with an old plastic one I had laying around, it ran beautiful for a day. I guess something must of got in the carb, so I pulled it to clean it. I decided to put an old vacume advance 034 and a 34 pict-3 that I could never get to work together. I finally had enough knowledge to get them to work. I've been wanting to run those together because it was supposed to be a good setup.(It really should of been alot easier) It ran good around the block. I get to try it out on a good run tomorrow.

New fuel pump on the Jolly Rancher. At least it runs now. Still haven't taken it for a spin. A little scared I'm going to have transmission issues. We'll see shortly

No and I think I'm passing, my last name should be Murphy. If I bought it to flip, I'd get stuck with it for a loss!
Geek is this car.....

It's pretty hard to flip a car like the one Bill has. You almost have to get it for nothing, because if it's not A1 condition. No one wants to pay over 3,000 because everyone still thinks they're a cheap to fix and with this economy, no one has extra money

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Finally got around to putting the smaller jets back in my baby webers. I went from the 170's I put in when I installed the carb's back to the factory 130's from Empi. Run's much better, not as sluggish at WOT and revs much smoother at higher RPM's.
