Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Welded and Welded....
Some Pix:
Step 1 - Identify the problem:
Step 2 - Prepare the specimen for transplant.
Step 3 -Little nip here, little tuck there...
Step 4) dry fit.
Step 5 - Skin graft...
Step 6- This is where I ran out of Gas (literally and figuratively):
Step 7 - Look at insides and realize that there is ALOT more beef here now...

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
^Nice work KC!
Been working on the bus front door window frames the last couple of weeks. Got them apart, blasted and painted. Started putting the new rubber in them. Got the rubber around the vent wing windows done! The vent window frames were in pretty bad shape with a ton of rust and pitting so I ordered some new ones from WW. Should be here tomorrow along with the frame hardware kit so. I think the new wing window frames are bright white, so I'll have to tape them up and paint them, but as soon as that's done I can start putting everything back together and not flood the cabin everytime I give the bus a bath.

Eric, I am interested in your feedback on those windows. They seem like the way to go. I will need 2 in 2013 or later.

K.C., you should have left the door handle on that piece- that would leave people scratching their heads

I'll let you know! When I was putting the bug back together WW was not making these (bug or bus) so I had to take mine apart, pay out the butt to get them rechromed, then fight for hours getting the seals and glass back in. Two week later WW annouced they were now supplying aftermarket units for about half the cost of my rechrome job . Just my luck

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Flux - Thanks! It was not hard, but took a while.
Grifs - I thought about leaving the handle in, or making a slide out.
If I had plans on keeping it, I would have done something creative.
But this one will be on the market as soon as I finish the side up.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Last week: Got Tim Baker to put vent windows back in the doors of Bella. PO, cut them out and I did not want the one piece windows! He did an AMAZING job! Will post some puctures on an update of my thread.
Last night: Welded the pans in Bella FINALLY!!! First set I have ever done and first time welding. Pretty damn proud of myself and really feel like I am making some progress. Pictures to come later on my update.

Wetsanded the roof with 2000 grit paper, then hit it with a foam pad and cutting compound

pwmcguire wrote:Had some issues with my black foam float in my h30/31, I replaced it with an old plastic one I had laying around, it ran beautiful for a day. I guess something must of got in the carb, so I pulled it to clean it. I decided to put an old vacume advance 034 and a 34 pict-3 that I could never get to work together. I finally had enough knowledge to get them to work. I've been wanting to run those together because it was supposed to be a good setup.(It really should of been alot easier) It ran good around the block. I get to try it out on a good run tomorrow.
well, I'm still dealing with this issue, I took apart the h30/31 and cleaned it good, still seems to run rich. so I'm leaning towards an intake leak. The engine sound changes with carb cleaner sprayed around intake boots.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Rebuilt a fuel reserve for Ron's car. Also replaced the oil cooler seals in the bus and re-shimmed and adjusted the generator. No more oil leak and no more scraping! Leon's going again!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Taking Leon to Cherokee? Bus caravan!!
I finished welding in my adjusters on a '71 Bus beam. Started tearing down Moto's front suspension to do the swap this week. I didn't realize how much stuff you had to remove to drop the beam(Clutch cable, Brake line, Emergency Brake cables, Shifter rod). I will lower rear after the front is back together.
Noticed that I have an axle boot that is broken and grease all over the underside and engine. Crap load to clean up. Long list of stuff to do while the beam is out, undercoating, grind off the mig wires/slag from floor repair, flash rust removal, clean and paint front suspension parts, it will be a long HOT week.

Not sure got to get some miles on that $25 engine first...May ride the motorcycles up with Dad not sure yet. Ashley would drive either the bus or bug with Mom.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Cool on the Moto-cycle ride. Drive it these next two weeks and check it out.

Thats the plan! It does smoke a little on start up and downgrades but it seems to run pretty strong so far.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Wow my neck is so sore from working under the Bus. I got the adjustable beam in and the upper leaves in. I had to do some messaging on the upper adjuster, the shift rod runs right across it with little room for anything to be in the way. Painted the shift rod installed new bushing, painted the clutch and brake pedals. More work tomorrow night.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well got the Bus finished lowering anyways.....
Also got my luggage I bought off eBay and a buddy on here/work sold me a nice Sears/Roebuck ice chest and Coleman water cooler. The Luggage is for Geek but it works in the Bus also.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I changed out the 34 that was on Irmalinda and put a 30/31 that came with the bus on it. seems to like the 019 disto way better than the 34 did. I hooked up and set the choke, MAN I forgot how nice it is to not have to feather the gas when this thing is started. purrr.
I changed out the 34 that was on the 70 bus (clogged idle jet) and put on the newish empi that was Irma. It is nice to have it idleing as well. I had to rebuild the oil cooler tin on the back of the shroud on Irma. It had no seals and no bolts holding it on, there was a 4" piece of aluminum tape though... Every thing back there was litterally flopping in the breaze
I made some seals )5/16 gasline) and put some new bolts in. I cannot wait to see if this helps I know the oil was taking a beating... Pressure was still pretty good though ( I installed a guage).
It was a busy saturday!
