Continued cleaning up the pans, CLR and rustoleam is your friend. Then I taught my 13 daughter how to change the tires.

Unfortunately I'm moved on from the ghia desire. Strictly hunting for a bus now. Well, actually I'm hunting for the $$$ now, then I'll hunt for the right bus.

As requested, here are the pics
I think it's Bahama Blue, and has been off the road since 1976. Brad pulled out a 1976 Bi-Centenial Quarter from the ash tray!

I bet the last guy got that in the drive-thru and said "hey look at this fancy new quarter, i'll put it here so I don't spend it".Grifspop wrote:Brad pulled out a 1976 Bi-Centenial Quarter from the ash tray!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Pulled my gas tank and drained it out- then rinsed and pressure washed it out. Unbelievable amount of rust flakes, chunks & particles of all shapes and sizes. Going to attack it with CLR and chains and such tomorrow......then repeat step one I guess.Planning to get to LaGrange (in the Knight) on Saturday. Just have to see how it goes.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yesterday I started taking the tin and external bits of the 1641 so I could clean it up. Had a good bit of oil on the top of the case and when I pulled the shroud, I could see one of the oil cooler seals looked like it had leaked some time ago. Picked up a doghouse adapter bracket and cooler in nice shape at the Meltdown show last weekend so I'm going to switch over to the doghouse set-up. Just need to get a 6mm to 8mm step stud.
While I had it apart, I tried blowing through the heatrisers on the manifold and couldn't get any air to pass through. So I put a peice of an old e-brake cable in my drill and went to town cleaning out the old carbon build up. The cable busted right through it and cleaned it out well. Unfortunately though, one strand of cable had broken and I didn't notice it until I was slowly feeding the cable into the manifold and that strand decided to poke about 1/4 inch into my thumb .

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I made a trailer hitch for my squareback. I can pull my 10ft Scotty camper or my Allstate now. It's made out of 1.5 square tubing .120wall with .250 mounting plates. Looks overkill, but it's lighter than I thought and almost hidden on the car. Painting it tonight and installing tomorrow. More pics to come.
