Scored a direct bolt on set of Western Turbines (14") for my bay!
I'll get them polished, and then install them on one bay or the other!

Nope. Went to a guy down in the FL panhandle.Grifspop wrote:bumblebuggy wrote:Sold the square today.

Worked on the bug yesterday. Had the drums turned @ IAS and reinstalled, bled, and adjusted the brakes. Pedal vibration is still there. I've determined it has to be the bent rim causing the problem. Also adjusted the clutch pedal...still grinding into second like a crashbox. One day of work down the tubes.

Put about 40 miles on the '82 Vert today.
I named it PITA because it is a pain in the a...
It is doing well, but I still am thinking a Webber 2bbl and intake are it it's future.
It is amazing how much better it ran after I took out the 1/3" of slack in the throttle cable... I apprantly wasn't ever opening the 2nd butterfly under load. .
Any way runs better, has WAY more power, but I cannot get the CIS right, it is running rich to try to compensate for the sputter at high RPM.
It is pulling 18" of mercury at idle so I do not seem to have any leaks in the vacumme system.
I'll get it straightend out. It is nice to be driving it again.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Tried to figure out my brake light issue. No luck, but now the horn and the hazard lights don't work either. So I put the door panels in and took her for a test drive.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Drove her in to work. Still no wipers or brake lights but I just wanted to see if I could find any other issues that I need to tame. Well I found one. Looks like I must have knocked soemthing loose while I was installing th edoor panels. The key will lock the doors but it won't unlock them. and yup that means I'm locked out of my car at work.
This is very odd since I got the key cut at Armor Lock by taking the same handle to them and it has worked just fine up until today.

I had problems with Diego's '67 and the door locks- really had to wiggle the key to get the lock rod to raise

It's both comforting and disconcerting how easily I was able to pick the lock.

That's also why they changed the wing window latches in 1968 and added a steering column lock

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
A funny thing happened on the way home from work yesterday. I’d spent a good part of Sunday trying to fix the wipers. I’d concluded that the motor was just seized. I was getting the correct voltage all the way to the motor but it just didn’t turn. Well yesterday on the way home I start hearing this cyclical wirr-wirr sound and notice that the wiper posts are turning. I guess just driving around vibrated the motor enough that it started turning again.

Install wasn't too bad. Could use better directions but they were sufficient.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Separated Bella's body from her pan this afternoon! Only took aout an hour or so and was easier than I thought it would be for my first time. I did however break 4 or 5 bolts off in the process! Next up, replace the pans! Seeing all the great rides this weekend at the show has really motivated me to kick it into gear!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Went over to my parents house to work on the bus. Me and my dad spent all day working on the bus finishing up a little wiring, installing the engine (a couple of times), and fiddling with the rear drums trying to figure out why the drivers side has a little play in it. Then we fired it up and took it for a spin through their neighborhood........ about 10 times . Plan was to take it back down to their basement and then bring it back to my home on Tuesday after I got insurance and a tag, but I just couldn't wait. Kelly drove in front of me and dad drove behind me, and we snuck it a few miles down the road back to my house!!! Cargo doors were in my garage, so the side was wide open .
Need to get new tires, these have a ton of tread left, but are pretty dry rotted. Also gonna eventually need to get another drum for the rear drivers side. Also eventually gonna need some new engine mounts, these were totally shot, but I didn't have any new ones, so I just rolled with what I had. Trans is still leaking a good bit, so I'm gonna have to pull it someday to address that, and I'll put new mounts in then. Good news is that the trans did great.
Brakes are SCARY!!!!! All new brake components all the way around and the pedal is nice and firm, so I don't think I have any leaks, but I definitely have to keep my distance. A chunk of my tax refund will be put back for a disc brake upgrade.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Awesome News Eric. I bet that thing was loud with no cargo doors. I can't wait to see it in person.
I mounted the tranny I got from Bryce up in the Westy this weekend. Put it on 4 wheels for the first time in 30 years.
I also will be bringing this one home so I can get more work done to it.

Yes, it was pretty loud, and the rear hatch had no glass, so all the fumes just got sucked inside and stunk to high heaven, but it was a blast getting it on the road. Speedo wasn't hooked up, so I have no idea how fast I got it up to, but I can definitely tell it's no speed demon. But I'm fine with cruising around 55-60 for the time being (assuming it actually does 55.)
You'll have that westy up and going in no time Phillip!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Good to see it's finally home. I remember how scary my brakes were before the disc upgrade as well!
Yesterday thanks to Tim Baker, I located the elusive passenger seat back support I have been looking for! Today I trimmed off the excess metal from where we cut it out of the donor bus. All there is left to do is get it blasted and weld it back in. A little paint and she's good as new.
