Those cushions look good James. Got any green plaid Westy fabric laying around?
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Repainted my 66 plate I got from Tim, I turned out pretty good, here are the before and after pictures.
Maybe thats why it takes me so long to rebuild a vw, I have a license plate and no engine to put in it

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I used the electrolysis method to remove the rust and paint, two heavy coats of spray can red with a a scotch brite in between, enough to remove the imperfections in the first coat. I got two small brushes at Michaels, and about 4 coats of white to to get the lines straight, with a shakey hand. I thought of a roller but I didn't know what was available, so I didn't explore any more. Here are the brushes

Job well don Pat. Those cushions look cool James. Pat, I thought about a roller as well. I haven't tried it yet, but, I was thinking of maybe a paper towel roll or tp roll for the roller.

I'm thinking of, what I would call an ink pad roller. A hard rubber roller, with a wire type handle, like this -[|
about 4 inches wide. You might try a place that makes custom stamps

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Had to replace the horn wire, it finally wore through from scraping the steering box.
Made the replacement wire a little longer so it could be routed to the side of the box instead under the bottom.

I need to do this on the '63.DiggerD wrote:Had to replace the horn wire, it finally wore through from scraping the steering box.

went to strip the end to put an end on it and it just snapped out.
Looked like it only had about 2 strands holding ot together.
Did you run it up from the bottom or the top?
I am thinking bottom...

I tied a piece of fishing line to the old wire then pulled it thru. then tied it to the end if the new wire and pulled it thru from the bottom to the top.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Spent a few hours during a couple of evenings this week, then a few more hours this afternoon pulling and re-installing the transmission. Trying to get the shifting better and the horrible clutch chatter to go away. Replaced the front transmission mount and addressed a small leak. Gonna finish putting everything back together in the morning and go for a test drive. Keeping my fingers crossed it gets better. Not sure though, we shall see.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Was playing beat the rain all weekend but managed to get the glove box door changed to white and the inside of the driver's door with rattle cans. I will finish painting the rest of the interior and then wet sand and add a clear coat to everything. The plan is to get the interior "restored" and then move on to the outside. When the outside gets a proper paintjob I will redo the interior paint at the same time. The passenger door is for comparison.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well not today but this past weekend drove "Moto" to Lake Martin. Thats near Mont. Al. 224mls round trip in this heat and engine was cooler than my 30ml rides to work. He's a trooper, 60-67 mph on the interstate and the hills on Hwy 50 are killer! Just love to drive it, nothing like it.

Something special about a bus. After a while you'll miss driving a bug though.rpm750 wrote:Well not today but this past weekend drove "Moto" to Lake Martin. Thats near Mont. Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Ok, Over the weekend I:
Replaced the fuel pump on the B5.5 (not hard, just tedious), Put in a set of green expensive front brake pads for the front.
Got a set of early pop outs and seals (thanks Tim.) for the '63.
Got a euro style "ubber cool" front license plate for the '63 as well.

I replaced all the tie rods and the steering damper on my buggy yesterday. I also welded up a stand for my speedometer to mount.

Don't think my jets are going to be here by this weekend, but I had fun with a little dining room bench assembly last night with the new carbs.
