Yesterday - Spent all day on the VW's. Results, Kermit starts drives and moves and stops. Got PITA started and drove for the 1st time in 6 weeks. I removed all the factory hall effect stuff off and put a blue bosh coil and a 1979 1.5L disto and bamo, purrs.

Will the middle of a speedometer cable go up into the heat riser? I've got one of those you could borrow

Peter, I got a really nice unclogged intake for a SP if it's not a 40hp.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
thanks guys - bob it is a 40hp
and ive tried every kind of wire/cable i can get my hands on.
I think its just so clogged the wires are just not able to bite into it.
Ive pulled out prob 3 cups of carbon and still clogged as ever
soaking it in clr over night - see wht that does

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
well -had to take the day off since the kids are not back in school until tomorrow.
Gave up and took the heatriser up to bobbys- he ended up having to drill a hole in one side then rich cleared it out.
Alls good now

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Blew out a front tire on O.B. on the way to work today. The spare that is in the car is too big for the front so I had to get a ride back to my house and grab a tire and a gas burner (the only other four lug wheels). Then go to the tire shop get it put on and then back to the car. After all of that the gas burner rubbed on the lower ball joint in left turns or bumps so I carefully drove the car home and drove Java to work. I was only about 2.5 hours later than usual hahaha
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Took Judy for a lap around the block. Bogging down a little bit off the line but otherwise running just fine. Rear drums got really hot after only a couple miles. I was told that there's a normal burning in period but this seemed a little too hot.
This weekend I'll reinstall the interior and the seat belts we scrounged from pull-a-part.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
rear wheel cylinder blew up (this makes the 12th cylinder to blow on me). fixed that, and while tryin to bleed it just wouldn't. hose collapsed. got new hose, and all is well. still have to bleed entire system (got too late), as the pedal goes to floor, and then firm on 2nd pump. good enough to drive to work and back and do it when i get home. been drivin it like this for months, another day won't hurt, lol.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Finally got the rear drums on Warbird after trying a hundred different ways to swap the rear bearings. Guess I'll have to get motivated one of these days and pull the engine and raise the trany so I can pound those bearings out using the axle tubes. At least I replaced all the seals and (hopefully) stoped the axles from leaking into the brakes.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Noticed this morning that I had a very low rear tire. I figure the camber has taken it's coarse on it. I need some extended notched plates in a bad way.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Spent most of the day shooting electrical problems.
Result: I have turn signals(front and back), driving lights and a horn. PO had painted over the wires and connectors and hooked up the rear lights completely wrong.
Still need to figure out what's going on with my brake lights. I'm getting voltage to the back of the car when the pedal is pressed but that voltage doesn't make it to the bulbs.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
i had that problem before as well. turned out that the brake light wire had almost broken off. it frayed really bad against the plastic tube that comes out of the body where all the wires run thru. there were only a few strands of wire actually still making contact. i got a full 12 volts at the bulb socket, but i'm guessing not enough amperage. fixed the wire, and all was well.
If its not that (assuiming a 67 bug is the same as my 72 super), make sure the screws that hold the metal housing of the tail light, aren't rusted (they are the only thing that completes the ground from the housing to the body, as the body (or fender, whatever, lol) is painted. and also make sure the ground on the socket itself is still connected to the metal housing.
