Rachel and I took off the old rusty doors and installed the "new" ones. Tomorrow we'll work on transferring the window regulators, but it's just too hot today.

Got the engine in and everything hooked up. Tried to crank it and....nothing. Have some issue in the wiring or maybe the switch. Ran out of time and had to pack it up.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
tapped and clearenced the case and fitting for full flow on my 1600. had just finished cleaning up and was about to go inside, when lightning struck a tree 20 feet in front of me. My ears are still buzzing, and i've felt spaced out ever since .
and btw, i don't care how hard you think you are, when something like that happens, it scares the crap out of you. I think i jumped 20 feet in the air

Went through all the windows, trims, regulators and parts installed the best into the new doors we installed on Saturday. Then we took the front brakes off inspected 'em and repacked the bearings.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Spent this morning spitting and swearing-
Picked up yet another gas tank (#4) over the weekend- and it's leaking around the drain in the bottom....
and oh look, : someone patched it with fiberglass and mud! (At least my cigar wasn't lit!)
#1 Leaked
#2 the 'crustbucket"
#3 wrong size
#4 leaks too
In the words of Charlie Brown..."AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!"
Guess it's back to trying to clean up tank#2

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
changed the oil, put on the driver side pop out latch, cleaned the windows, seam sealed the tent, and loaded about half the stuff for Cherokee....almost ready to go
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
cut up one of the bad doors to use for sheet metal to fix the luggage tray.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
It was a long night- but I cleaned, dried, cleaned and dried my tank again. Got new fuel filters (2) installed, and took little extra time to mount them both as close to vertical as I could, to keep any more rust settled in the bottom and not allow it to flow thru the filter Got the Knight fired up, and shortly after sun up did a test run to Waffle House. MMMmmmm
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I broke it on the way home from Cherokee and had to get a tow home.....rear wheel bearing went out felt like the car was going to shake apart hahaha

We still had a great weekend! The worst was yet to come though.....ac was broken at the house when we got home....oh well that is how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
It was nice meeting you and your wife, Hank. Hope to see you at the next one!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
finally got to the last peice of the fuel system on the bus, finding the sock on the outlet of the tank to be the original sock and it was fully restricted more than half the length of the sock meaning anytime the fuel got down below the height of the clog it had been causing it to "run out of gas" I am 90% sure this has been my problem all along, even causing the old motor to cook from running lean and not to mention spending countless hours on the side of the road scratching my head knowing I had plenty of gas but no fuel in the filter and now finding it was something that took me less than 2 minuets to fix but months to find. All in all RELIEF for now.
