Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
yanked the body off my 74 super all by myself today. built some horses 3 feet tall, and used my dad's engine hoist to lift one side of the body, set the horse under it, and the same with the other side. so the body is off, and i can slide the pan out to work on it, and back under to store when i'm done working for the day. hope to be sittin the body back on relativly soon, lol.
i had initially tried to lift the entire body off the frame but it seems a super body is a lot heavier then a 60' baja bug body, and as i lifted it up the front started to fall down and before i could catch it. it gently fell back down onto the frame, and gently pivoted off the jack stands onto the legs of the engine hoist, and kinda bent it sideways. luckily there's a lot of play built in those hoists, that it didn't actually bend the steel or anything. it was funny as hell how the car just gently fell down the whole way, lol. note to self "don't do that again"

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yesterday I got a ton of holes in the floor of the bus welded up. Not rust holes, just holes where they previous owners had screwed things down to the floor. There were atleast 25 of them, plus one big one that must have been used for a sink drain. I'm sure I'll have to put some of my own in there when I put the interior back in, but for now, just want to keep the water out!
Also, stared at my wiring and a diagram for a while figuring out what was what. A few of the wires have been cut so I'll have to splice some in. I'll eventually just get a new harness, but that'll probably wait until it gets painted.

Don't forget to hook up that washer reservoir. You could probably shoot liquid 100 feet in the air!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
ever done something wrong for years and years, and when you finally realize you've been doing it wrong, you feel as if your life has changed for the better, forever? had a moment like that today.
i've never claimed to be good at adjusting drum brakes. always seemed to suck at it. could never get them right, always a soft pedal. so today the line broke off my M/C (the blue hose that goes to the resivoir), so i'm readjusting the rears (i have front discs). after i finish i get in the car, and something doesn't seem right, i then realize i had the E-brake up (meaning i adjusted the rear drum brakes with the e-brake up). even tho it never worked worth a shit, i still always put it up when jacking up the car just incase it fell off the jack stands. i then realize that i've done that for as long as i've had vw's . so now that this life changing realization occured, i let the damn handle down adjusted the brakes, and for the first time EVER since i've owned vw's. i now have perfectly functioning brakes. no more pumping, and no more slowing down WAY before my turn afraid of the brakes not working, lol. also got the E-brakes super hard. the handle doesn't even go half way before it locks up. and i even tried to take off with the e-brake up and the wheels didn't budge at all. so friggin happy. went to wendy's and celebrated with a baconator and peach sprite
