Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I hear a lot of people on the samba say they could bearly tell the difference in power from a stock 1600. But I personally have never driven in one, so i couldn't tell ya. I'm guessing just going from 1600 to 1776 won't do much, but a combination of better exhaust, going to the 90.5's, dual carbs (or bigger center mount), etc., makes a difference. But thats just speculation on my part, lol.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Spent 5 hours to mount one manifold and 3 hrs fabricating corrections to the CSP type 4 linkage to work with KADS. Warning: Never put KADS on a stock TIV. You damn near need to drop the engine to install the lower nuts on the intakes. Grinding, die grinding, making special tools and working with the very tips of my fingers for 5 hours and one is finished. Oh, and it's a bitch to install carbs when you realize you have two left ones.

Did the tin hit the motor? is it still drivable?
Only by an expert??? If it were me, i'd cut the apron off, take off the decklid, do any engine repairs (if nessecary), and roll the shit out of that thing, lol.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
The yellow one quit on me yesterday morn. pulling out of the driveway at 5:30 am. Would crank but that was all. I pushed it back into the yard and looked at it today.
Looks like fuel pump. I went to my supply basement and and dug one out. Before that I did a kind favor today.
I changed the oil, replaced all fuel lines and filter, replaced the belt, put on new wipers, adjusted choke, replaced fuel pump gaskets. All this for a Cobb County Cop. Some people call this insurance. I call it do it for the love of the car.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I had some new brackets fabbed for my luggage rack last week- got them installed just before BAP- but painting them today.
They are very heavy gauge metal, and attractivly designed. They were fabbed by Tommy at Street Sweepers in Dallas, Ga.
I couldn't be happier with them!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Dropped the motor for the head replacement. Will clean it up tomorrow. Getting a set of headers in a few weeks, so I'm just gonna leave it down until then.

Removed exhaust. Got most of the tin off and cleaned. Getting ready to put the new heads on.
Not gonna be pretty, but should be a runner.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Put on front disc brakes, 3in. lowered struts and strut tower stress bar.
In a couple of days my little big motor will be coming back out and the 1915 back in.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Changed the oil and tuned up the 71 today. Took a little spin and except for the pesky oil leak, she's running good!! Thinking about starting the front end rebuild and lowering it later this week.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Cleaned the rest of the tin (man it was nasty), got one head on. One to go! Ordering my headers from CB on Friday. I am sending them here to get ceramic coated: http://www.headercoatings.com/index.html .Said they could do the header and muffler inside and out for $150-$160, no too bad. This is the header: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1634. Should be plenty for my ported/polished single port 1500. A good price for a fully merged, quality ceramic coated header. I will let you guys know how it turns out. If anyone has any experience with these guys already, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Broke the accelerator cable this afternoon. It did not leave me enough to stretch back to the carb linkage. A couple of nylon cable ties and I was back on my way! Not pretty, but allowed me to limp home at half throttle!
