Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Today i bought a dune buggy body for $100. Its in pretty good shape, it just needs maybe a little bit of fiberglassing here and there, but nothing major. Now i'm just trying to figure out what it is. I think it may either be an apache standard, or a manx. They both seem to be really close, but according to lots o pics i've seen it does seem to be a manx. Any dune buggy gurus here?

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
yesterday i gave the buggy a nice wash, and started making a sandblasting booth out of some 2X2's and tarps. It will be big enough to blast a whole frame, or body. Thats definately gonna be SWEEET. Also i did some more sanding on the kit car.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
well i took off my generator pulley becuase it was makeing a horrible noise on the way home from the meet last night. The pulley is wollowed out. yes it was a chrome one, piece of crap. not only is the pulley ruined but the key is tore up pretty bad, and the slot the key sits in is wollowed out to. Looks like im gonna order a alternator kit.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
still working on my sand blasting booth. Its comming along quite nicely. I als decided to put a tunnel inside and build the booth around it so it doesn't end up being too small. I guess the next step is to build a table inside so i can sit the frame on top.

Yeah that happened to me last month! Luckily, mine didn't damage the shaft and I was able to just put a stock pulley back on that I had laying around. If you want to try another generator, I've got one you can have, from what I remember it should be good. You will need a pulley tho, the one I used to replace my POS chrome one came of this genny!! Let me know and I will bring it next time I see ya.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Alex,
Check is in the mail. Not going to make CTS. I most certainly need to make this show one time and tried my damndest to get the weekend off, but just couldn't wiggle out of it. At this point I'm fighting just to even show up to YU Buggn.
Billie,
I'll send you some pics. Paint will be simple. Hood and fenders need to be Yellow. The rest of the car will be black bedliner. Shouldn't take much paint. The problem (i think cuz I'm not a paint guy) is the age of the buggy. It has old faded flake gelcoat that is very rough to the touch. I'm thinking it'll take a couple coats of some thick primer to even come close to smoothing it out. Sanding it down seems like it might take too much material off the glass. I'm not looking for a show fnish. Just something that looks good from 10-15 ft.
There are a couple pics here...

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got all the suspension stuff for the 71 layed out this evening. Planning on starting the rebuild tomorrow, gonna set the struts for a 3" drop for starters and see where that puts me. I will need to go to a 145 or 135 tire to get the full 5" drop so I may just wait till these 165's wear out before going for the super slam!!

oh, here can be a before shot, I took this afternoon:

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
The front end rebuild kit for already lowered 71/72 supers will run you 375.00 + shipping from Topline. I used their kits for the suspension on the 74 and all the components are well designed and manufactured. If you get it, I can help with the install. (this 71 will be my second install and with all the tweaking to get the height right on the 74, i'm have got pretty good at assembly and re-assembly!) There are a few specific tools needed, (that I have) and some that I have made, to make it go better. Here is the link to Topline: http://www.toplineparts.com/
Oh yeah, I will bring the generator on Thursday!

On Thursday I did what I never thought I'd do....
Took this rough '68 to be scraped. I got $53 for it.
And today I went and picked up this '65, a few parts will come off but it too will be scraped!
Sorry volks but I couldn't take them home with me I already have to many.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Sorry Eric, I've promised the Pop outs to Scott. I have taken as much stuff off as I see as useful. I'd like to hide these guys in the woods behind my house but I have that nosy neighbor that just can't keep to himself! The county code inspector has come to my house twice now! Yeah, he's a _____!!! Fill the blank!
