Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I managed to break my PVC plastic dealley that plugs into the valve cover. $39.00 screw up if I can't epoxy it back together.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I sent my transaxle and reduction gearboxes to Rancho today to get a full rebuild!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Started a camping box and finished the steering wheel rebuild on the bus. Pics to come.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well I was getting closer on my new motor (1776) and then ran into a problem once I put the cylinders on. I didn't cut the cylinders deep enough so the piston skirt was just barely touching at bdc So, I tore it back down and cleareanced the cylinders the rest of the way. I figured while I had it apart I would bump it up a little more. I decided to drop in a CB 76 stroke crank and CB stroker rods. It only took a little more work on the mill and now I will have a 1956cc when all is said and done.

Yeah -right - we will see - I'm sure something will come up and it will need to go bigger.
The skirts bottoming out was the problem I had with my big-bore kit for my 1200.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Ordered this shift knob Monday. They just shipped it yesterday so probably won't have it by the Beetles cruise on Saturday.

I have had Winifrid off the road for a few weeks completing projects and thought I'd share. It's nice to have her back on the road.

Disassembled the struts to get the top bearings off, will reuse them and the top spring perches in the rebuild. Once these are cleaned and repacked, it will just be waiting for the other parts to arrive.
What kind of wheels are you going to run?
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the bearings finished tonite, will pack em later. A big difference than before:
Before:
and after:
Votwing for now I am just gonna run the chrome mangels that are on it. 4.5 front and 5.5 rear.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Well, I went to *VW City in Marietta yesterday morning and met Bryan the owner. Nice guy fair prices. (Sorry guys no air cooled parts) I picked up a new "Flying Saucer" (That's what he called it) It's the round PCV thing that plugs into the valve cover that I broke. Also the missing rubber gromet for it. I got to see another 2.0 motor complete and realized I was missing another part, the crankcase vent tube. I got one of those new in the package.
I went to Billie's shop Stockornaut later in the day and put all my new goodies on. Also I relocated the radiator surge tank using the bracket the PO custom made. I don't like the look so I'll be remaking another one out of his design.
I really wish there was an air cooled place that has all the inventory and knowledge that Bryan has. He really knows VW water babies to the max. There is a lot to know as the 2.0 and other water motors changed almost yearly. Many, many configurations. Some parts will swap over and some won't. He knows which parts are stronger and weaker that will interchange.

I drug my water cooled VW Beetle to the muffler shop today.
I received my new KYB GR-2 shocks for the rear of my '68.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
did some paint stripping on my 74 super. got the passenger rain gutter, and rear quarter panel stripped, but the fumes from the paint stripper started to make me gag, so i stopped, and will continue 2morrow.
Also i cut the rear suspension part of the tunnel i bought from bryce, for my sand rail. I'm gonna use the VIN numbers from it, so it will be titled as a 68 Ghia .

Those guys are great, been taking the wc's there since we moved here. I was in that area yesterday as well, there is another place down the street from them that stocks acvw parts and also knoledgable in them as well. Even has a small junkyard in the back full of ghias, bugs, buses. Bought a 67 Deluxe from him a few years back for $400 !! Pretty good selection of parts too, a lot of nos stuff in there.
Within 2 miles of VW city there is Marietta foreign auto that stocks a lot of v-dub stuff and can usually get parts they do not have in stock same or next day, There is Jeff Browns place Autoworks, he carries a good bit of west coast metric parts and does upholstry, and the place I was at Import service and restoration. Told them about the Beetles bbq cruise so maybe they will stop by!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Were you taking a picture of the place (VW City) yesterday?? just remembered that on my way back saw a guy standing by the road taking a pic of their place, struck me as odd!!!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
No that wasn't me taking a picture. I hope for their sake it wasn't a VW corporate spy taking pictures to mount a "cease and desist order" for having VW in their name. If it was it won't be long before they'll have to change their name.
Well the muffler shop called this morning at 8:00 AM telling me my bug was ready. Billie and I rode over and picked it up. Sure is quiet now. Next I'll wire in the new O2 sensor and hopefully that will lean it out. We noticed a vacuum leak that will have to be chased down.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Installed the new KYB GR-2 shocks on the '68 and got a good surprise. The shocks that were on it were KYB Gas Adjusts like new just painted black.
The water bug needs those Gas Adjusts on the rear because of the increased weight of the 2.0 Jetta motor besides the water bug doesnt even have a shock on the passenger side and the other is a rusty piece of crap.
I'll wire in the O2 sensor tonight or tomorrow I sure hope that leans it out. I've got to lose the power steering pump or keep having to put oil in it so it wont seize. PITA!!!!
I need to design and build an engine cover with a wing out of aluminum. I'd buy one but they cost $650.00.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Billie installed the KYB Gas Adjust shocks on the water bug today. Also he installed the new O2 sensor. I helped Billie with his new lift installing the cables. His shop is starting to come together. Another new customer showed up today. He's starting to roll. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
