Eric, that stinks. Can you have Kelly post the pics of you riding that horse?

haha, those horses are right outside of our neighborhood and they have 5 of the miniature ones. I was tempted to take him home with me.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Sorry to hear that, Eric.
That's what I was thinking. 1 miniature horsepower.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
There's actually 5 mini horses in that field, so I could have strung them together and had about as much horsepower as a push mower, lol.
removed transaxle again today and starting tearing it down. When I originally installed the axle tubes, they felt a little tight, but still had circular movement. The axles were also a little stiff to turn, and they seemed to bind up a little bit in certain places, but would eventually work past that spot and spin good. I never had shimmed axle tubes before, so wasn't sure what "normal" felt like. I now know what they should not feel like,
Apparently they bound up too much and the circlip popped out and the axle/side gear fell away from the spider gears, and I was dead in the water after that.
Hope to get another gasket kit soon from WW and try again.

Despite the 10 degree weather, I adjusted valves and installed a compu-fire points replacement.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Round two of new transaxle install.
Don't want to jinx anything, but took it for about a 8 mile test drive and made it back. It was getting pretty dark, so I didn't want to go any further. Will do some more driving tomorrow.
I'd like to give a big thanks to Bob who pulled himself away from the afternoon news and stopped by for a bit and gave me a hand getting everything back in.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yes, it still sounded very good! I'm hopeful it was just a fluke the first time. After messing with the snap rings for a bit, I'm thinking I may have actually just not had the drivers side snap ring fully seated the first time. How many people can say they actually had Howard Hughes as their co-pilot on a test spin?

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I think I might take a rubber mallet and try getting the dent out. I hit once with my hand and half of it bounced back in place. The branches fell from a pine tree that is dying, we are going to half to get rid of that tree ASAP! I will take my revenge and burn every last bit of that pine tree!!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
When I did my transaxle swap I installed a new nosecone with a reverse light switch. Finally got the reverse light mounted yesterday. Looks a little out of place on a bus bumper, but i'll get used to it. It's really bright so should help when backing into camp spaces at night.

Let me know when you want to drop the transaxle and throw one on. I've gotten pretty dang quick and pulling and installing transmissions lately!
