made my day!fluxcap wrote:DubDawg2579 wrote:Began putting the 2.5" drop spindles on. I say "began" because the tie rod gave me some problems. I didn't have the ball joint tool, but I don't believe it would've helped anyhow. It was stubborn, but finally got it replaced. One side down, one to go
Great $20 investment! This thing is awesome, cheap, and works great.

Well, Bryce told me about the harbor freight one. Never have actually used it on ball joints since none of my cars have them, but have used it on numerous stubborn tie rod ends and the swing arm on my bus and it never has failed to get them apart.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
yeah, I did comparison shopping and harbor freight with 2 day shipping was the way to go. in that case, also thanks to Bryce
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Harbor freight is great! I live 5 min. From one. Not pro tools but they work fine for what I do and are cheap.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
If I'dda known there was one 5 min from Kennesaw, I'd have driven down and picked it up instead of 2 day shipping Noted for future needs, though lolMuffler Bearing wrote:Harbor freight is great! I live 5 min. From one. Not pro tools but they work fine for what I do and are cheap.

Been redoing some body and paint work on the Knight- little stuff, here, there and (eventually) everywhere. Going to keep me busy for a while. Overall- getting 'er ready to get the new engine installed, and back on the road.
Still have some minor wiring and mechanicals to do in the coming week.

I was hoping to get a lot of work done to the SP2 by YU but I just don't have the time. Guess I will just wash it and show up.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
On Wednesday, I paid an additional $18 for 2nd day shipping assuming to receive this today. Spoke to a guy I could barely understand to find out that it didn't ship until late yesterday and won't receive it until Monday. I definitely shoulda saved the extra $18 and just drove to Kennesaw and picked one up Harbor Freight 2nd day shipping = Wednesday to Monday...fmlAttorney Isaiah Loophole wrote:fluxcap wrote:

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I'm just aggravated as can be! Haven't done much of ANYTHING for a bit, much less on the VW's. Even have had to turn away paying customers!
Been three weeks now as a one legged man (meniscus). Can barely walk, much less push a clutch pedal!
I'll definitely miss the Scumbags get together tomorrow, and quite possibly can't make Y U Buggin either!

Started cleaner waxing Heidi tonight. Plan is to do about 4 or 5 coats then linseed oil the hell out of her. Hoping to have that done and te interior cleane up by YUB. Wish I could afford to get her stance right before the show, but just not in the budget right now unless anyone out there needs any legal work done. Lol.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
37 years old and still feels like Christmas morning when Fedex or UPS drops off a parts order! Even if it is repair parts or new rubber replacing dry rotted stuff.
Got my bearing races fitted in my new front drums, located my threadlock for screwing in studs...... then realized I had purchased the wrong studs at BugAPalooza.
Maybe I will have my lowered spindles on before YUBUGGIN..... My bug isn't nice enough to look so snobby-ish right now.lol

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Planned on adjusting the valves on Pippi today. Tried to start her up so I could park her on level ground and got nothing. Opened the back and the ground cable to the battery had broke completely in half. Looks like the 300 miles of curvy roads over the weekend finally took their toll on the 37 year old cable.
So I replaced a ground strap rather than do the valves.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Drove it to work with no prob. Well just the people behind me telling me to go faster up hill.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I decided it was time to replace my transmission mounts since my car won't stay in first gear any more.
Unfortunately, that means pulling the engine. I was proud of myself that it took me less than 45 minutes from start to OUT with the engine.
The transmission mounts looked decent, until I jacked up the transmission to find they were actually completely broke in half. Not good.
Replacing them was fast and easy after a little degreasing of the bolts.
Rejetted my baby dells while the engine was out then put it all back in.
Engaging those splines is always fun but the engine went back in pretty easy.
All done in less than 3 hours. Not bad for a slacker working by himself.
Now the car runs better and stays in first gear.
YUBUGGIN, here I come.

Will continue work on the chassis on Monday.
