Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Just finished my chevy 3-wire alternator install. just gotta find a belt for it . Was going to use an A/C pulley, but after some math, it wasn't going to turn the alternator fast enough, so I just welded 2 pulleys together. I used an original a/c compressor bracket, where the arm goes to the case half bolt instead of the distributor stud. seems more solid there. I had to drill out the exhaust studs, and replaced them with longer chromoly ones. I just welded up the left side brackets out of some 1/4'' flat bar I had lying around, and the right side bracket was just a cheap chrome one from advance auto, that I bent and twisted to work. I did this for a few reasons, one being that a chevy alternator is cheaper, easier to find if it goes out, easier to actually replace if it does go out, and you can get a 100 amp one for about the price of a stock one. plus it hooks up the same as the VW alternator. red fat wire to the battery, and the white wire to the green wire (idiot light). This is just on a 1600 sp, so I just got a 10si alternator. When I finish my 2110, i'll swap this over to it, and get a 140 amp 12si, especially when I start adding some speakers and amps . I gotta find an airconditioning shroud that has the left side heater box outlet, angled. hopefully i'll find one at BAP
And BTW, I gutted that generator. I took out the brushes, and wires inside. so its just there to hold the fan.
Let the flaming begin

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Hopefully fixed my pulled head stud issue on Leon. Also replaced the front door seals, cleaned up the main ground cluster so my turn signals work again, and figured out a weird generator light/no oil light issue that ended up being a blown fuse?....strange

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got my motor in yesterday. Chevy alternator fits like a glove, no clearance issues. Also found a perfect belt for it which leaves plenty of room for adjustment

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Finally got my 72 super running. running, not driving yet, XD. just got some little details to finish, like seats, and fenders, bleed the brakes and if I'm lucky, some turn signals and lights. The chevy 10si alternator worked PERFECTLY . I don't think that car has ever seen 14.8 volts . My dual caliper disc brake kit seems to work well as well. pedal feels firm despite pushing 6 calipers. we'll see what happens when I take it for a ride

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I believe it is an Ingle 101.
I am running a 010 distributor in it now and only have the max advance up to 22* or so.
I will adjust the 4k RPM advance to 28* and see if any HP increase.
I can tell a big difference over the stock 1500 SP that was in it...
Now I just need a set of Kadrons for my SP intake...
Engine has 26 miles on it.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Replaced the sound deadener on the tunnel and put more on the pans. Also filled the reservoir with brake fluid and bled the brakes. Reattached the pedal assembly.
