Had a good weekend. Got the gas tank in the 71 Westy and filled a few pinholes using all metal to get ready for a windshield. Put the headlights and turn signals in the front and it kind of gave it a personality. The top is back on and exposed metal is covered. The big thing is for the first time in a very long time it is tagged and insured. Just waiting on Tim and that 1776 he is putting together for us and it should be moving under its own power for the first time in that same long time.

Finally traced my electrical problems to the alternator on my Westy. Ordered some parts from Bus Depot to go on the replacement alternator. Working hard to have all the gremlins chased out in time for Bug A Paluza.

Worked most of Friday prepping and installing the longblock for Leon that I picked up from Glenn on Wednesday. Saturday morning I pressure washed the junk off the roof and bumpers and changed the oil and off to the Warner Robins Cruise-in I went. Engine did pretty good after I changed out the wore out points at the Steak n Shake. 170+ miles for the first real road test other than around the neighborhood at 11:30 on Friday night so I am pretty happy.

Buffed out the front of the car with cleaner wax... looks tons better... also put quick release pins on the rear luggage rack... productive weekend. Thanks to ping349n for the suggestions!

Oil change and then started trying to understand my first distributor swap, going to a Bosch unit. What a great evening for it, great temps, kids out playing basketball in the driveway, it was perfect

Nice!
I have an 019 and an 010.
The petronix for that unit is #1844.
The # 1847a (for an 009) will not fit.
Didn't know if you knew that or not.
Clean it up and run it. I am going to put mine in the Ghia when I pull the engine to seal it.

Installed a brand new wiring harness in my 72 super today.  Went in pretty easy till I got to the main harness, where it goes thru the foam of death behind the rear side window.  Just took a torch to the foam, and let it burn out.  The harness passed thru much easier after.  Got most of it in, just have to finish up a few small things.  One of which is installing some diodes to put a 4 pin trailer cable up front so I can hook it up to my RV, to use the cars lights, instead of those annoying magnetic lights.  And also install a converter for when i tow with the bug.  I've also gotta change the alternator wiring, since I'm running a Chevy 3 wire alternator now, instead of the VW alternator.  It's a hell of a lot easier modifying the harness after just installing it, since now I know where pretty much every wire is now.

Teach me something, Why diodes?   edit: Never mind vw has separate turn. I just used lights that had a reverse and used an amber bulb when I built my trailer.

My lovely wife stitched a new canvas for the front child cot, today we installed it to test fit. The future owner of the Westy is trying it out.

Pulling out of the campgrounds this morning, pushed the clutch in and pop, it went to the floor, and I was still moving. Limped it on home, pulled the pedal assembly first. Last time it did this, I pulled the engine and it was the clutch pedal hook, but this time it was the throw out bearing arm broke at the throw out bearing. Pulled it out and replaced it with one I found at Gene Beddingtons. Popped it back in followed by the engine. Viola. Back together and back on the road.
