I bought the steel for the heater channel replacement today for the waterbug. I brought it home and ground the rust off and acid etched primed both pieces.

Yesterday I pressure washed the '68 gas tank. Used a heat gun to dry out the inside. Ground off all the paint and rust. Acid etched primed the whole tank. Then shot gloss black. Then shot clear coat on the top. Cleaned the tank hold down brackets and painted them silver. Then I bolted the tank back in today. Getting the fill hose back on was not much fun.

This afternoon I Jacked up the bus and greased the front axel. Now that I get off at 4:00, I have a little free time in the afternoon! sunny
Afterwards I took Hannah for a ride and stopped by the park.

today i almost lost both my baja bugs. my dad was burning some old papers, and check (all that important stuff you don't want to throw away for security reasons), and he got the fire started in the metal barrel, but the heat lit up the grass, and before you know it, everything was lit up, and burning, right nest to the workshop the baja's were in. he called the fire dept. and they put it out, with almost no damage to the workshop. now the whole area around the workshop is burnt, and smells bad, lol.

but other then that i did some more sanding and painting on the rear clip for tha sand rail, and the new (to me Laughing ) IRS/ linkpin frame for the 74 super.

Got my seat rail reattached and the drivers seat back in so I can drive the bug again. Also did a little more cleaning on my case to get it ready to paint.

The 39 has a tank full of old varnish gas in it. There is a valve under the car so I turned it off, disconnected the fuel line, attached a hose to the valve and turned it on - drained 6 gallons out of it so far 1 gallon at a time. Hope to rebuild the carb this weekend and finish draining the gas so I can start driving the 39 around. Can't wait.

Got off to a great start on the 2"x4" x 1/8" heater channels on the waterbug. Billie got one side cut off and the new heavy duty heater channel tacked in. If I ever decide to put a roll cage in it won't be any trouble with the 2"x 4"x 1/8" wall thickness steel for a foundation. Cool

I sanded my American Racing wheels today. While using my air compressor both 30 amp fuses blew. The bullet cartridge looking ones in the "on/off" switch-box with the Frankenstein looking on/off handle. ("It's Alive, It's Alive") I called my buddy George (He knows everything) and he said the same thing happened to his compressor. He sent me to Ace and said get two slo-blo or timed 30 amp fuses. I did and went back to work on my wheels. No problem with the compressor since. I shot the centers gloss black and then clear-coated them. They look a lot better than before.

I went to Stockornaut to work on my waterbug but Billie was busy with his motor so I went home.

I'm hammering and dollying the dents in my hood. Stick blocking down the thick EPD primer the sandblasters covered it in. Wiping a little metal to metal putty and blocking it back and then sealing the bare metal spots with acid etch primer.

All I have left to do is the roof, A and B pillars, both doors, the cowl, both front quarter panels, one rear quarter panel and the interior. Also around the windshield channel. I need to block the EPD on three fenders. Cool

Got my engine running again. :cheers:I laid off sanding and painting helmets long enough to trace the ignition wires through the body and found one that had become cut. She coughs and hacks, but she starts. Still got some work to do. The plan is to continue my bumper to bumper rehabilitation as money and time allows. (and if I have to pull the engine- maybe get some fancy, shiny tins like Gary did, but continue my cars own 'motif' on there!) Then illuminate the engine compartment and.........
Hmm so much to do....... :CD:

Came home to find that the lawn mower had jumped into gear while dad had it idling in the driveway and hit Ashley's car. Messed up the running board and door. The running board should be fixable but the door is too creased in too many places that you cant get a hammer and dolly to. Guess I will be going to Ducks this week. Oh well accidents happen I am just glad that is a removable piece.

I got three fenders blocked, filled and primed on the '68. Both doors disassembled and the drivers door off the car to get to the corners and DA it front and back top to bottom. Touched up some places on the hood that weren't level. Still need to check it again because it's so noticeable. Took the pop out rear quarter windows out and chased a tiny amount of rust. I took the gas flap and stripped the paint and acid etched them primed it blocked and primed again. It is ready to go. I pulled the receiver latches in the jams and the door limiters.

I'll probably DA the jams tomorrow and spot prime. I pulled part of the headliner and windlass on the B pillars. Probably pull the windshield tomorrow and chase rust behind the rubber.

In my best Andy Rooney, "Did ya ever notice just how damn big a VW Beetle hood is ? I did while blocking it." Cool

Well I've been having a problem with my car dropping to three cylinders and to fix it I have to adjust #1 intake valve, it will tighten up. Today I went to adjust it and it is way out, about 1/4" farther than the other valves. Yeah it is toast! I think the seat is beat to death or the head it self is destroyed. Oh Bugga is off the road for a while it looks like. Crying or Very sad I have a single port 1600 that has new c/p that came with the score stuff. Will have it together, soon. I'm not sure if I want a single port or go back with the dual port?

I K2 primed the hood and blocked it out. Need one more coat but ran out of materials. Drivers door is ready inside and out. I cleaned up the drivers door jam with a grinder and a small DA. Shot etching primer on the jam. I pulled the windshield and chased rust at the bottom of the opening at the corners. Shot etching primer there as well. Cool

Still not in but the guy that came today was a bit more experienced. He took it back and is going to cut it down a bit. It keeps getting down to the last 2 feet and bowing.

On the bug one, you also have to watch which side is in. I always thought they were flat, but og has a slight bow to them. I put mine in backwards and had trouble getting my wiper blades to clean right. A guy at a local shop looked at it and pointed out it was in wrong. Flipped it around and worked pefectly!

Hopefully this guy will get it in in the morning, ready to button it up and get rolling.

Got the emergency brakes hooked up on the bus. Installed new cables with adapters from ISP to make everything work with the type 1 drums. Found the cable clips were missing on the backing plates, but I had a set with clips to rob from. Will change to a type 3 set up later, would make a good winter project next year. Cool

I cut the weather strip seal receiver off of the cowl and ground off the rust (A lot of rust trapped under there) and acid etched primered it. I pulled the wiper assembly. I pulled the padded dash cover and the glove box. It sure looks better without that padded dash. If I go without it Ill have to weld up a bunch of holes. I'll have to decide soon.

I picked up some more 2K primer but it was to wet out to spray the hood.

I went to Stockornaut last night and couldn't blast the other side of the pan because it was raining so I wire brushed it with a grinder and cup brush. (I'm blowing black buggers this morning) I got a thick coat of gloss black rust preventative on it with Alex's help.
