Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the brakes adjusted pretty good finally. Got my brake lights working again and drove it around some today.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Replaced the leaking brake reservoir in jade. Also replaced the retaining springs on the passenger rear brakes. The keepers and the studs were mia and the springs were pretty chewed up. The drum had been ground down a little too. Oh well brakes and the e-brake work great now!
Had four tires removed from a set of smoothies in prep for sanding and painting them and putting them on Java. Still need to build a beam and order some hubcap clips....I have a week to get it done maybe it will make it to Y U Bugg'n.

Got the new engine in the gon and found it has a cracked head. fun city, now get to try and pull one from the rusty Canadian engine to swap it with. No fun on a wasser boxer!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
DROVE IT!! (For about 10 feet, while sitting on a milk crate...) Thanks Bryce and Shaky for getting me going. Hope to get glass and at least a proper seat in it tomorrow, but wouldn't be that far along without the patient work of those two!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Hell yeah. We'll cruise up together the day of. Sweet. I've pretty much abandoned the turbo bug for this week, I'm just gonna concentrate on the 72, and gettin it ready, with some beat, clean it up, fix that annoying oil leak, some electrical gremlins and a few other misc things. and if i have enough time (doubt it) i'll try to sand off that primer the PO sprayed on the car, and try to get that OG blue back. One of the heads on the turbo bug was warped and cracked. so thats on tha list of stuff to buy, lol. so it definately won't be finished in time. I'll work on it after YUBuggin. i still don't expect that motor to last very long. I'm just gonna crank up the boost, and retard the timing till it blows my goal is atleast 15lbs

Cruising there Friday sounds good. Don't forget I've got some stuff at the warehouse for you, vents, carpet...and I grabbed a piece we can use for a pattern for the spare tire cover at IAS today, just cut 'em from fiberboard and cover.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the rear window in, thanks Mike and Mark! Solved a wiring problem with Mike's help, I now have brake lights! Glenn came by and did the timing and taught me how to adjust the valves (Twice due to an error on my part, but I got in good practice!)
Can't thank my Airhead Bros enough for all that they have done to help/teach me about this car. It's close guys, and I will drive it on Friday to the track!
Thanks again!

Got the cable for the hood release routed and it works! Found out the release mechanism for the gas filler door was FUBAR, and Wolfsburg West wants 40 bucks for a new one...new item on the list for pull-a-part!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Attempted to die my curtains to hide the sunbleached spots.
Note to anybody else considering it: I think RIT die actually made it worse. The die held better to the parts that were already yellow and didn't hold at all on the parts that were sunbleached white. So now there is an even stronger contrast.

Old Yeller is back at ProFlow- Getting longer studs so one of my carb manifolds will stay on without stripping the nuts. Hope to have her back for the weekend! (Fingers crossed) Won't have time for any cosmetic/beautification projects now....Bummer.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
dang sounds like steve is on overtime,he also has my transmission
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
One of my exhaust tips fell off today, so I put on a new set. Took the car for a drive, and the generator light came on, so I'll be checking the connections tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I finally dropped the engine on Saturday....I was informed by the guy who is going to do the rebuild for me that main cam bearings for type IV engines are scarce worldwide. Anywho, that gives me plenty of time to get into the engine compartment. Last night I scrubbed it for about 3 hours and barely made any progress, but I am exposing some decent OG paint.
Anyone know of a good degreaser that won't strip the paint?? I was using Simple Green @ a 1:2 dissolution last night, and it was not very effective.

Really? I had pretty good luck with Simple Green. But I was using it at full strength.Treehive wrote:Anyone know of a good degreaser that won't strip the paint?? I was using Simple Green @ a 1:2 dissolution last night, and it was not very effective.
