Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
we sell a brush on manifold gray made by por15 at Summit...works great!! spray on kind is fine as long as you prep the surface properly...as mike said, preheat the part before you paint it. if the surface is clean and you apply several thin coats it will last....assuming you use good paint? i prefer VHT brand, flame proof header paint. as with any paint job..it's only as good as the prep work!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
tried to get my fuel system working. The pump works when I wire it straight to the battery but doesn't work when I install it and try to turn it over. Is it a fuse somewhere, a voltage regulator, bad wire? who knows?

X2. the duplicolor one (i think its duplicolor, the one with the pic of the engine on it), works ok , but the VHT works a lot better, a little more $ tho, but totally worth it.
why does VHT sell a high heat roll cage paint? I guess if your car blows up in flames, atleast your cage will be ok

Did you get it rebuilt already?Treehive wrote:James and I got the alternator, engine mount, heat exchangers, and most of the puzzle piece tin back on the engine last night.....more to come today
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yeah hobus, it only took bear like 10 days to rebuild the engine. It has been me that has made this project take so long....first, scheduling someone to help me drop it and strip it to the long block, drive it to SC, clean the engine compartment, remove and treat all surface rust in the compartment (originally wanted to respray the compartment, but that is a whole other can of worms), grind all rust off the tin then prime and paint (that took a weekend for me and James), more random cleaning....All that is left is a few pieces of tin that go on the bottom (no engine stand to flip it around), get her back in and attached to tranny, put the carb back in, run the fuel lines, put in heat fan, spark plug wires, carb, CHT gauge, battery, rewire a few things and hopefully fire that puppy up.....I'm sure it will take me another month

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
noticed the timing was off on the way to work this morning - so at lunch i drove to a shady spot adjusted the points and set the timing- got in the car no go.
Luckly I had an old set of points and condenser in the tool box. Popped those in and was gone. - Only 30 min late getting back to work

The 66 is sporting new brake hoses and wheel cylinders all the way around. Hope the brakes will start working now. Well, that's after adding brake fluid and bleeding, bleeding, bleeding,...

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I FINALLY GOT RID OF MY SUPER BEETLE SHIMMY, 100%
Turns out it was the center link. the balljoint at the end of the link was worn badly, and was able to move almost 1/8'' side to side. Swapped it out, and Its riding nice, with absolutely NO shimmy whatsoever. steering is also nice and tight, zero play in the steering wheel. After that i decided to take it for a nice long cruise, and went to Keelan's house (Username: kia) and picked up that Air Conditioning kit from him (Thanks again, your tha man ). gonna start installing it soon, with a few mods of my own .
today was a good day
