Put the heads back on and looked all over for the feeler gauges to adjust the valves. No luck. I'll pick up a new set tomorrow.
So I spent about two hours with a bottle of Simple Green just cleaning up the engine compartment so it'll look good when I put it back together.

Is that coil wire setup going to work??

Yeah its done, I used the long wire as the donor and it fit just right with a little extra. All I have left is to do is bleed the brakes and put the rear bumper back on. Thanks for the wire it probably saved me a day of running around town to get something that would work!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Found out the buggy makes a good submarine. Got caught out in a storm yesterday and had to pull in to a gas station with water up to the seats.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Went by Steves, and looked over my pair of 040 'boat anchors'. I'm very fortunate to have found a friend who had a pair of nearly identical heads, just collecting dust. Their already bored for 90.5's, and semi-hemi cut like the former heads. Getting some new valves installed, and putting my dual springs on 'em. Lucked out and found the replacements have larger valves too ( ) They should be ready by the time I scrape up some more cash.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Adjusted the valves and painted all the engine tin. once that all dried I should be good to go for reassembling everything tomorrow.

I anticipated this and drilled drain holes in the floor of the bumblebuggy.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I have the drain holes but as hard as it was raining half of the floor would have to be a drain hole.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
drove the bus up to VA last Thurs about a 9 hour drive to camp with a bunch of other vw's. On the way up had to stop pretty quickly one time and it felt like I lost half of my brakes! Started pulling really bad, and half the stopping power. I knew I needed new pads so thought that I had lost one and continued on to the campout. Then about an hour away I started losing my fanbelt. Put a new one on and it would just pop-off. Oh well no stereo for the rest of the trip and just drove on the battery power. Get there and look at my brakes and they are fine, look up and the rust monster had got me. When I hit the brakes the front beam came apart!!! My lower torsion housing is free floating! OH CRAP! 400 miles from home and find this.... Well checked the belt issue and my dumb a$$ had put the pulley on backwards when I put the new alt in, so fix that and decide I am going to limp it home with the busted beam. So crawl all the way home, 11.5 hours pinching the seat with every noise and bump, and white knuckling the steering wheel the whole trip!!! Guess I know what I am doing this week, either putting in a new beam, or welding the crap outta the one in there now....Oh yeah, maybe new seat covers too, with all the tightening up they are not so pretty anymore!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Was this on the bus that you just finished redoing the interior?
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Thats the one. But the front seats are still the old ones that were in it and are in pretty rough shape, thats on the list to do as well but my but needs to be safe before it gets the comfy treatment!
