Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
last night, i finally went to go pick up my 042 heads, for my 2074cc motor in my 72. i got the heads, two sets of thermostat flaps, a set of chromoly pushrods, two hoover bits, and an alcohol thermostat. the last thing i need are a set of pushrod tubes, but they won't come in till tuesday, so i guess i'll just be sanding and painting tins till tuesday, lol.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
spent most of the day going thru m shed, lookin for GERMAN tin pieces for my 2074cc motor, and then stripping, and cleaning them. if you saw the pics of my engine on my page, on the 70's section, then u know the motor had an EMPI shroud. when i took the cylinder covers off, the underside was chrome, and there was a big "Made in Tiawan" sticker . so obviously, there was no air vane inside, and the tins were too short, and didn't come down to the bottom of the exhaust port, thus leaving a huge gap between where the air deflector is supposed to go, and the cylinder head tin. gotta love that shitty aftermarket tin

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Went to Stockornaut today and picked up some new tires for the '67, and Billie was nice enough to loan me an adapter for the wide five wheel so I could get the tires mounted and balanced. Most tire places don't have a collar large enough to balance a 5 on 205 wheel. THANKS, BILLIE!!!!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Today i met a guy who had a 72 super beetle. his car also had the dealer installed air conditioning system installed just like my 72 super (did all 72 super's have AC on them? 72 must have been a really hot year or something ). he told me he was wanting to get rid of all the AC stuff, because he keeps hittin his knees on the AC consol. i'm taller then he is, and i don't have that problem so IDK. so we made a deal, where i would take all the ac off for him, and he'd let me keep it all. so i'm thinking about perhaps taking his condensor, and mounting it either next to mine, of maybe on top, just to have the extra capacity, and cooling for the system i'm making. and if theres room, maybe even take the evaporator, and somehow mount it inside as well to have two ,just for the extra cooling. i don't know what the inside of these consols look like, so i'm not sure if there will be enough room to do this, so we'll see
he also still has the origional compressor bracket, which i might be able to use, and he also have the origional double crank pulley.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Made a pattern out of the old canvas to start making the new pop-top canvas.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Today I installed a shift rod bushing and the coupler rubbers... I had some fun with that one
But I am having some issues with the reverse lock out not lining up, I'll deal with that later.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
did a little more work on the 2074cc for my 72 super. got the fan shroud in a quick coat of primer, just so it will be somewhat protected for BAP, since there is no time to get all the tins powdercoated. after BAP i have another set of tins, i'll get powdercoated, and just swap out all the tin, then take that set i just primered, and get it powdercoated, so i'll have another set for my other big motor i'm building for my rail. after that 2074cc, i don't think i'll ever build another stock motor again .
but man, was it just me, or did every one else get their @ss kicked by all that d@mn tree sperm?

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Installed a three point belt on the drivers side of java....now if WW would have sent me all of my adapter plugs I could have had seats belts on the passenger side also....
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Pulled the fuel injecteors out one by one and checked the spray pattern. The ones that sprayed anything at all didn't have good coverage. I'm probably only running on one cylinder right now. Looks like tomorrow I'll be looking for someone who can refurbish them or sell me some new ones.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
This reminds me of a really funny story:Bugman114 wrote:gettin my emergency roadside kit ready......... man, there's a lot of stuff i need to still get
My mother-in-law used to drive a beige '71 Beetle. My father-in-law used to have to go help her on the side of the road quite frequently. He had a small emergency roadside kit that he kept in his Jeep. He also kept a shoebox labelled "71 VW beetle" with a few parts specifically for the beetle; spark plugs, points, voltage regualtor, etc. My father-in-law was also a Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout troop.
One day he was driving his Jeep home from the Troop meeting and he sees a beige '71 Beetle broken down on the side of the road. Thinking it was his wife he pulls over and starts helping. It wasn't his wife but he talks to the guy and tells him that he thinks he might have just what he needs to fix the problem. He walks back to the Jeep and comes back with the box labelled "71 VW Beetle", pulls out a voltage regulator and replaces it for the guy. After a jump the bug starts up just fine. The driver looks down at the box of spare parts, sees the label on the box, then look at my father-in-law in his Scout uniform and says, "Boy when y'all say 'Be Prepared' you really mean it."
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Had a similar one myself, when I first moved down here, was traveling back and forth and saw a bug on the side of the road. Pulled over and it was 4 teens and the car had died. I pulled up in our nissan quest and pulled out my tool boxes, one I keep all the goodys you would need to get an air-cooled on the road, they were kinda shocked that a family mini-van would have all those vw parts in it. Got them up and running, still to this day carry a bunch of parts for other v-dubs just in case.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Pulled the injectors one at a time. Only one was spraying and it wasn't a very good pattern. Plus the connection hoses were dry rotted.
Anybody know a better deal on injectors than this one?

check this thread out, http://fullmoonbusclub.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?203280 there are a few other places that will do the same. Not bad for the work done, wylie was not happy with the cost but the work done was what was needed. Now that you have a bus, come join us and camp!!! http://fullmoonbusclub.com/news.php
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I ran the Autozone ones for over a year with no problems in my '76.peregrine67 wrote:Pulled the fuel injecteors out one by one and checked the spray pattern. Do not look like bosch injectors but work great. I sent the OEM ones out for rehab and never put them in. Sold them with the bus when it went.
Go get some of the cheap ones, and then send the nice ones out and have them as a spare set.
