Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
worked on the trans, she is no longer stuck in 2 gear and I'am back on the road!!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got my gauges installed and the power run to them. (Thanks Clyde) Tommorrow I'll get the sending units hooked up.
On the road again!
Back from Lindys (Herrells) with new bearings throughout the engine, new seals and some other odds and ends. Gotta laugh - things were running great, then suddenly, I had to do the last 100 yards down my street in first gear. ( no swearing though)
Turns out the wing nut on the clutch cable gave out- stripped the threads inside the nut. I just got done double nutting it this morning. Used with a big ol' washer and two regular nuts till I get a new wing nut (Cripes!)

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Rebuilt the brake system on a buddy's car that I am working on. Also hoping to finish the motor. Still have got to get a couple pieces of engine tin.....
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
New wing nut on the clutch cable, Inspected the rest of the system- cable, pedels and cluch cable hook. Everything looked good except the bowden tube. I'm driving to work today!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Didn't have much time to work today. Cut some kickpanels out of wood and then covered them with carpet I bought at Lowes this morning. The carpet was a slightly darker shade, but it's not to noticeable. I bought a 4ft by 6ft piece of this stuff and plan on using the rest to line the trunk.

Eric, this makes me sic - this thing is so clean looking. Awesome job!!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Thanks alot Eric! This is my 3rd bug, but it's the first one I've ever torn apart and rebuilt. It's been a long fun learning experience. I also put the rubber and trim on my windshield, so hopefully me and my dad can maybe get it installed in one piece this weekend. Oh, and I cut a huge chunk of skin of one of my knuckles with the dullest pair of scissors on earth.

Steering wheel looks great! I repaired mine and painted it white a couple of months ago. It took about seven tries. It was really hard not to get runs on such a small curvy surface.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Started stripping it down for a brake overhaul, decided to rebuild starter since I could get to it better without everything in the way, adjusted valves because of easy access, now I'm going to replace those sump studs so I can put on my shiny new billet sump cover and who the hell knows what else I'll get into while she's up in the air.

Be careful. I started with a slipping clutch in my '68 and ended up with this...

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. I was headed up Barrett Parkway towards Kennesaw. My wife wasent happy. The problem was - a 1960 does nto have a gas guage - it has a reserve switch and tap. My car did not have the tap so I put it in. I didn't know it and had the switch on reserve and ran all the way out. I know which way the switch goes now.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Did some exhaust work, sounds better the header had a quarter sized hole where it met the j tubes, i welded the j-tubes to the headers and patched the hole after i sandblasted the whole exhaust.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Installed a shifter out of a bay bus in my bug. I first cut the bus shifter near the base and did the same on my bug shifter. Then I welded the bus shiter to the bug base. Also heated it in a few spots and added some cool bends so it sits right. It turned out looking real good. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Now I just need to find a cool shifter knob.
Added Side Marker Lights More German Look Additions
Added some side marker lights behind front fenders. Going to wire these to work with my turn signals.
Also ordered off of ebay new wheel lug nuts "Black ones". After several opinions to go with the black ones I did. I added a picture of them.
