I shot epoxy primer the deck lid and blocked it with a guide coat and discovered a couple of more small dents. I'll address them today and re-prime.

I chased rust in and around the package tray with extend followed with Rustoleum primer and welding in patches and welding up holes.

I put some more insulation in under the back seat area. I will put some over the package tray and rear firewall today.

Put Gr-2s on the rear of my bus when I lowered it. Improved the ride quality by about 10.

In the last couple of days I finished insulating the rear package area and the battery well. I also wrapped the "Y" connector with insulation. I'll foil tape any and all seams today. I put extend all over the underside of the heater channels and then spray bombed black Rustolem.

Scraped some more stuff off of the bottom of the pan with a single edge razor blade. I wonder if I'll ever get it clean enough to undercoat. I've tried 409, purple stuff. lacquer thinner, acetone, naptha. Some of those remove any exposed paint but not whatever that stuff is. I swear it looks like the waxy protectant that comes on high dollar router bits. Guess I'll keep scraping away till it's gone.

I chased rust on the inside bottom of the drivers door...just surface rust so I swabbed it with extend and then Rustolem brush-able primer. I'll pull the passenger door panel today and chase rust in the bottom. I'm out of extend so another trip to the box store.

I think also today I will try to make the kick panels for the back seat. Wish I had at least a crusty old one to go by. I foresee lots of cardboard cutting for a template in my future.

I called my "headliner/glass" man and got a great price on installing a new headliner. ($200.00) That's for the one piece style. Now I have too save up the money to buy the kit and call him when I'm ready. He will come to my shop to install it. How cool is that? Cool

If any of you need a headliner installed or glass just PM me and I'll give you his number. He will give you a quote and come to you at your shop or garage. He does convertable tops as well.

Remove about 6 miles of useless wire from previous owners of the Westy. Remade all electrical connections and made room for the second battery and trickle charger. Solved one oil leak at the less than hand tight oil sensor! Pictures to come.

I made the rear kick panels and covered them with black polyester cloth. I welded up the turn signal holes in the tops of the front fenders. I welded up the bumper bracket slots in the front fenders. Going for a smooth look. I intend to put the turn signal in the headlights using those new halogen lamp lenses with the daytime running light holes at the bottom. I figure to put a couple of high intensity 1157 led bulbs in the holes.

I started sanding the hood to get the brushed on silver paint the PO put on and discovered surface rust underneath that paint. He just painted over the rust. I also noticed that whoever painted the car before had water in the airlines as there were bubbles everywhere.

OH well, I stopped and will probably take the hood and fenders to Blast All in Gainesville. They gave me a price of $185.00 for plastic media blasting the hood and four fenders. I may drag the body over as well. That silver paint is all over the roof too.

I agree $185.00 is a great price. It breaks down to $35.00 per fender and $45.00 for the hood. If I remember I'll take before and after pictures. I started thinking about the cost and mess of aircraft stripper and then chasing the rust with a wire wheel or grinder...Yuck!!! $185.00 sounds better all the time. Not to forget to mention they'll be using plastic media and that will not warp the panels. They say you can have the body blasted with the chrome and glass intact with no harm to either.

I turned 65 Sunday the 2nd. I awoke and thought,

"I'm 65 and still alive." .....YES!!!

It may be a while untill I get the funds to get it blasted because my next Soc.Security check (November) is pretty much spoken for because I'm paying off a John Deer riding mower at Lowes I bought in the Spring before the interest kicks in. It's zero interest for 12 months. Also they will be taking about $100.00 out for Medicare whether I want it or not. I'm still covered by my wife's medical policy at where she works. Then Christmas presents for the wife and my sons will eat up the December check. I also have to pay for the electric bill on my shop every month as it has a separate meter.

Meanwhile I'm having fun...

Well trying to find out what the thumping on the pan while braking. I checked all 4 drums, rear drum nuts(36mm), and could not figure out what the hell the problem was. So today I decide to look towards the gearbox and motor. I found a missing nut and the other one was very loose on the gearbox. These are up by the nosecone(15mm). So for a quick fix I tightened up the one so I could make it home to replace them.

In preparation for the Tampa trip I:

change the oil
adjusted the valves
pulled the distributor drive and put it back in the way it is suppose to go
set the timing
hooked up the heat not that we will need it in Florida but while I was under there I said what the heck

Still need to:

Paint the spare tire rim
check the gear oil in the trans axle
wash the car
check the air in the tires

If I have time:

Hook up the amp and 6x9s so I can play the ipod

Yesterday I ground the paint off of the front apron. I used a dolly and hammer to straighten some dents to help smooth it a little. I saw surface rust so I treated it with Extend. I let it dry overnight. I then wiped filler...several applications, very thin, blocking between coats. It was very hard working the area around the round disc just below the hood handle. I had to build up the area 360 degrees around the indentation for the disc. I worked the inside lip with sand paper on a little stick of wood until the disc looked right in the hole. I blocked what I believed was the last time before priming. I felt so satisfied running my hand over the area I filled. It was so flat and smooth. I took the air gun and started blowing and wiping dust with a clean rag..........................

Guess What????? scratch

Filler will not stick to Extend......The filler blew off in sheets....back to zero....going to grind the filler off and start over. Lesson learned....This time I'll use sealer first then apply filler. Dooh!!!

When I've brushed on rust treatments (Ospho and others) I always sand after 24 hrs.- Then blow off, and wipe with a cleaner/degreaser before applying filler. Never had an adhesion problem. Very Happy
