On a better note, today i bought a t25 turbo from a mitsubishi galant AND a small intercooler, all for $25. the turbo is in perfect shape, so i'll be using it for my turbo motor .
Ummmm.............What?
Hehe, that just means that I like your posts, I can just picture you looking back as the hood hit the ground.................good stuff!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
hahaha, i gotta admit, i too was laughing my ass off. i was looking back for like 10 seconds, when it saw it come down and smash into the ground. i damn near pissed my pants i was laughing so hard. THAT FUGGER HAD SOME SERIOUS HANG TIME . atleast it didn't hit the van behind me, lol. the hood flew over it, XD .
even tho i have a shit load of body work ahead of me on that damn hood, it was still funny as hell. and now i need to find some other way of attaching the hood, preferrably with hinges that aren't cast, and a little newer than 70 years old, XD

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
today i discovered that the turbo i got for $25 is actually a td05H, which is for a mitsubishi eclipse/ talon, and an upgrade for subaru WRX.

My sides hurt. That's the funniest story I've heard in a while. Excellent imagery and narration.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
lol. thanks
I examined the hood a little better today, and it seems like it will be easily repairable. it seems the hood simply blew inside. what i mean is, it seems while the hood was floating around in the air, or perhaps when it broke off, the wind pushed the middle of the hood in (as if a fat guy, like me , were to just jump ontop of the center of the hood). because there are no creases in the middle of the hood, meaning that when it hit the ground, it didn't hit anything. the only creases are on the sides of the hood. otherwise the hood is fine. it looks like the only bondo it might need is on the sides, where the creases are at, and maybe a light skim coat in the middle.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Rear fenders for the '73 are sanded down. Both are undercoated and one is painted. Hope do get the front fenders sanded tomorrow night. Then Saturday will be spent putting the engine in and trying to straighten the wiring enough to get it running.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Pulled the buggy engine out of the bus and swapped a bunch of the accesories over to the new bus engine. Drove to Stockornaut to pick up a couple parts reinstalling tomorrow while the snow falls.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
removed the left front fender and started cutting out the bad section. A little worse at the bottom than I thought but nothing I cant fix.
Funny thing is that when I cut the small square section out, an old wrench feel out.

Turbo, please don't waste your time fixing that hood. Just buy this and consider it done.

I'd almost pay for it myself just to see you driving around with it!
Nice work Eric! Perfect time to make sure that defrost hose is firmly planted on the heater channel!Votwing wrote:removed the left front fender and started cutting out the bad section. A little worse at the bottom than I thought but nothing I cant fix.

Hope to see you at the Sonic Glenn. If we aren't all snowed in.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Last night I put the engine back in O'Bugga, started it and let it run on the jack stands and saw a puddle of what I thought was oil. Shut the engine off and got a closer look. It was a mixture of oil and gas. Checked the oil no gas in oil. It looked like it was coming from between the head and cylinder on #1. Is this carb just dumping fuel into the engine, I checked and the vent didn't have fuel coming out. I rolled it outside and it took a while to crank it, it was flooded. Duh, Oh yeah the starter is shot also. I'm tired of fu..fooling with this darn car!!!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
ugh sorry man- hope you can get it sorted out- I know how frustrating that can get
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Was working on my "new" engine and about 2 min from plugging it back into the bus. I had pulled three of the plugs to check the gap (which turned out to be a good idea at first) when I pulled out the last pulg it came out with a helicoil attached. The head is toast. There's no way I'm running that in my daily driver. So tomorrow I'm running back to Stockornaut to get some other heads.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Stopped in at ProFlow, discussed and looked at fuel pumps, and what's different about them. Got some fuel hose, the longer size fuel pump rod (just in case), rear axle seals and a pair of pretty red axle 'booties' for Ol' Yeller. She was so happy she started when I got home
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Undercoating on rear fenders:
Before:
After:
Visited Stockornaut today and picked up new tires for the front of the '73. It had 205s on the front and with it being lowered you couldn't even get the front fenders bolted on.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
son came down with a fever this afternoon, so since we weren't playing in the snow i took some time to revive an old bilstein jack. Prob still keep the scissor jack in the car tho.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I finished up the outside sunvisor on the waterbug and installed it.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got some pics of the greddy turbo i bought the other day:
And here's the adaptor my buddy made on a cnc machine, to adapt the greddy flange type, to the garret t25 style flange type:
Also i worked on my folded up hood today. here is what the car looks like:
Here are the hinges that broke :
And here is the damage to the hood:
And here it is after about an hour of hammering, and pounding:
I even fixed a few of the defects that were on the hood when i got the car. needs a little bit of welding here and there. The hood will need a little bondo here and there, but i think i did pretty good for my first attempt at pounding out metal like that, using body hammersm and blocks.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Gave Java a decent bath. Blasted the whole underneath and tried to get as much of the grime from my snow riding off of the car.
Finally cleaned up the running board trim on it too. Someone never took the blue protective film off of the trim and after 8 years or so of being on there it did not want to come off.
Also vacuumed both Jade and Java.
