Installed the new draglink in the bus. So much better! The old one was pretty much toasted!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Drove Warbird to work yesterday. 1/2 way there I flicked on the windshield wipers to get a little mist off. Nothing happened. Made it to work without any issues and decided to mess with it at lunch. Found the switch to be a little loose so I tightened it down thinking it may be a gounding issue. Nothing. Checked fuse. Nothing. Cleaned fuse terminal. Nothing. Checked all the wires at the motor/switch. Nothing. Even checked the wire to the coil. Nothing. Gave up and went back into the office. After work I hop in the car and start it up. After letting it warm up for a minute, I put on my seatbelt and close the door. Right as the door slams, the wipers start working. Im a genius!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I was going to pull an old pan with a good engine I have out of the woods. I yanked and I pulled with my little tractor and found out the left rear brake is locked. I did get it half way across the drive way when I decided to go to plan B (tomorrow morn. when it is cooler) Mrs. Slim is not a happy camper. I'll let you know how this turns out later. SlimJim

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got started on a little more surgery. Lowers corners are both pretty crunchy, but the drivers side also had some nasty rot around the rear decklid. The other week a nice corner came up on the samba so I got it to use as donor metal.
Started cutting some of the rot out today. Rot was on the outer skin and half of the inner brace.
No turning back now
Donor metal, hope to get it cut and patched in this week.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Cut 2" out of the seat mounts in the Allison!
Now the windshield frame is out of my direct line of sight and my head won't bump the roll bar.
It has Mazda truck seats (comfy), and standard early beetle frames. I cut the uprights out and kept the 3/4" gain on the tracks. to keep seat flat as it slides back. I also got some white vinyl to make a bikini top for it.
Gonna make it adaptable by sewing in some Industrial Velcro to add Doors and sides later.

Nice job on getting into that one Eric. That is a tough repair and you are luck that inner is no worse than that. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Yeah it was kind of a pain just to get where I'm at now. There are actually four different pieces of metal that overlap right there along that edge so it was slow going making sure I only cut the pieces I needed to. Going to be tricky, but I think I have a do-able plan in my head.

Painted my beam and brake backing plates yesterday. Painted the stabilizing bar and control arms today then started reassembling it but it got to dark to see.
