I didn't necessarily do anything with the car, yet. But, I did get some stuff done so I can take the bug out for a drive tomorrow.
Well, before the falcons game tomorrow that is.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Did a little sanding on the 67. . Went and got my 1641 finished and put on the run stand at jeffs in sav last nite. Hes glad to see it gone and the his wifes glad i left some money when i took it. Lol
Got out today and put it in car. Had to git a tire mounted, new fuel filter and wire the wire on:) runs great, who knew it was supposed to go over 70? And it keeps runnin at the redlight without patting the gas?

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the new Rancho trany for the Jolly Rancher this week. Yesterday I Re-indexed the spring plates to get it to sit about an inch lower in the rear. I also hooked up the axles, and installed the trany. Wanted to keep going but the cold was starting to seep into my bones.
Need to finish up the brakes (adjust and bleed), hook up the shift linkage, install a new clutch and TO bearing, reaplace some more fuel hoses, and plug the engine back in. Might even take a hammer and try to pound out the smashed rear corner when I get it back on the wheels.
Hope this transaxle works better than the last one.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Bought another set of Mercedes Bottle cap wheels for a new High top bus I am picking up this weekend.
Saw them outside of a used tire place, He wanted $200 for them, I held at $150 with 3 great and 1 ok tire (s).
I need them to flat tow the hightop home...

Good To hear Glenn. What tranny set up did you end up with as the final?
Also, I have a few sets of Mercedes Factory wheels that came off my cars over the years if anyone is interested in them for cheap.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I went with the 4:12 gearing that's basically stock on 67-68 model bugs. Should cruise 65-70mph with the 205-65-15s in the rear. My bug has the same gearing/tires and it really likes 67mph on the interstate. I had my bus over 70 going down hill on my Cali trip. It didn't feel safe going that fast. I considered the 3:88 with smaller tires but I like my big rubbers in the rear.type901 wrote:Good To hear Glenn. What tranny set up did you end up with as the final?
In a coulpe months, I'm going to start collecting parts to build a 1776 to motivate it a little better.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
So in the process of trying to troubleshoot my back up lights I wind up crawling under the bus. When I short the switch on the tranny lights go on. So I know the switch is the problem. While under the bus I found a loose wire on my starter. Looked at the schematic and plugged it in and found that completely solved my cold start problem. Starts like a charm no. But when I leave for work this morning I don't have any dash lights and I smell burning wire insulation.
Troubleshooting it after work I noticed the smoke was coming from the light switch. Gonna pick up a new light switch tomorrow but in the mean time I'm trying to figure out if the switch was the problem or just a symptom.
Arrrgggggg!!!!!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Agreed. Everything worked fine two days ago. So I must have shorted something or knocked something loose while tinkering around. I need a new switch but I'm sure that's just a symptom, not the cause of the overheating. So I'm not going to install it until I figure out the cause.type4revolution wrote:Sounds like you have more than just a switch problem
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Sounds like a plan check and make sure you don't have a ground hooked up to a hot wire / or vise versa definately has somethan to do with what you hooked up last / start with disconnecting reverse lights and check it / good luck I hate wiring issues
