Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
was driving home in the 72, when all of a sudden, i heard a loud THUMP THUMP THUMP. Crap. flat tire. but when i walk around (rear right tire), there is tread hanign off the tire, but its not flat. it turns out, that the tread just seperated, and a huge chunk was hanging off, like a flap, but was hanging in a way, that the car would simply roll over it, and not bend it. So i kept driving. Had to go 20mph the whole way, or else it would beat the hell out of the fender if i went any faster.
I had just done a long 20 second burnout, like 5 minutes before. i guess i loosened it up in the process . the tire was badly dryrotted anyway, so no biggie.
I'll prolly slap the good spare onto the rear drivers side, and the rear drivers side tire, on the rear passenger side (the tire that burns out). that way i won't ruin any good tires
MAN i need a ZF, or even a quaife. anyone happen to have one lying around i could buy cheap

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
, wow. was it sparking or anything? on my tire, about the only thing that'll be touching the road are the metal wires inside. That actually sounds like it would be fun to see how that looks at night

I've seen it and it does look pretty cool! (as long as it is not on the car you are driving at the time )

Got my fuel pump wired in, fuel tank in, and flushed the crap out of the fuel line that runs though the pan. Took it for a quick ride down the street, still gotta figure out why the engine is missing and popping and won't idle.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the trans and engine in the new to me 74 westy. New boots and grease and got the heat exchangers and exhaust on. Got most of the externals on it and was able to start it!!! The switch is kinda funky, so ran some new wires for it, and while under there ran a power feed for the stereo, driving lights, and cb. Also ran extra wiring for the head temp sensors and a few extra spares.
When i was putting the trans in noticed some odd wiring and hoses. The bus has a belly pan so took it off to run the new wiring and was surprised to find a BA6 gas heater under there!!!! Today hopefully can finish up the wiring, get the sink/fridge/stove out and the bulk of trash out as well and have a friend bringing a truck mount over and cleanning the carpet/bed/seats.
Got 4 days left to get it rolling and hit the woods!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
More work on the 71...its on the 70s section. Put the correct thin trim on the running boards and had leftover shiny stuff...dangerous for me!
Came up with this, since I scrapped the foam dash and went metal. I may do it with 3m trim tape then I can always remove it.
What do you think?

Thats a cool idea!
It works well with the metal dash, I think it would look like ass with the padded dash.

Hit your head on that dash and they'll hose it off and sell it to the next guy!
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
today, i was on my way home, to install a buddy of mine's alternator in his 1996 chevy caprice (Friggin boat of a car), and he stalled before i got home (he was following me home, and the battery died). so trying to figure out how to move his 5157lb car, i said screw it i'll push it with tha bug. I was thinking there was no way my little bug was gonna move that monster vehicle. well i get behind him, give it a little gas, and it goes like nothing. Got him goin pretty fast, and i didn't even have to work the motor hard at all. and all up a pretty steep hill. got to my house. Its amazing how much power that little 2074cc has
Its funny because the decklid handle was digging into his bumper, but since his bumper is made out of rubber, the whole act of pushing him, didn't leave a scratch on his car, or mine. I just wish i could have taken a video of the whole thing. watching a tiny little bug push that boat of a car would have been such a hillarious sight to see
