Hahaha, gotcha. Never heard anyone call a piece of tire tread a black gator, lol. and yes, i was litterally thinking a real alligator

I ran over a real gator in Fl when we lived there, this thing was all of 5' long and about 5" tall at the back.
It messed up the steering on my 2500 HD chevy truck. It was like hitting a mobile speed bump....
I heard tell of a guy getting killed on "alligator alley" !-75 between Tampa and Miami. His jacked up nissan hard body was flipped when he hit a 11' long one. Killed the driver and the gator.
So, yeah he could have hit a real gator, but it would have destroyed the beetle.

It was an extended cargo van full of cast iron stuff, so yeah it died. It about cased me to wreck. I was making a delivery and wasn't doing but like 35mph - 40 mph when I hit it. (It was dark...)

Got my new back brake lines on, bled the rear, tomorrow I'll bleed the front (just too hot today, had to go swimming instead)

found out my nosecone is broken where it mounts to the front tranny mount.
sad face! ..

Ouch. not a fun repair. not hard, just a PITA. good luck with the fix.

Went tubing myself this weekend. Went up to NC for BrewBus and had a blast! My casaualties were falling in the river with my camera in my pocket during the duck races, and the beam came apart again as I started down the montain. Oh well, time to get the other bus a rolling, another trip in a few weeks and some fun mountains again!

Fixed the clunking sound that I thought was my CV joints, just very loose lug nuts. Tried to fix my wiper motor. We'll see if the JB Weld is gonna hold that gear in place.

Got my torsion cover back on, thanks Mike! Replaced the seals on my vent windows and pop-outs. Found a sending unit I forgot that I had! (It pays to tidy-up) Got a load of parts in, including windshields!

Admin just says soon. They are rebuilding the complete site. Their is a group on facebook, ugggh facebook, but a lot of people are on there until the sites back up. The campouts are being brought up there, one this weekend near where BB was and the big one High Country is comming up.

Worked on the driver's door window regulator, yesterday I finished bleeding the brakes, vacuumed it and washed it.
Tomorrow it's wire up the fuel pump, install gas tank, install windshield wipers, bumpers and brackets, finish engine compartment
