Since Saturday I've driven her over 300 miles. I'm really diggin' calling her a true "daily driver".
On the trip back from Sonic the front end started squeaking like nobody's business. Looked underneath and the shocks are cracked. Looks like one more thing to replace while I'm under her replacing the boots.

Re: '76 Westy
Yanked out the seats and started tearing them down so I can sew up and install the new covers.

To see the early pictures of the van after it's hiatus, to where it is now, is remarkable
Plus, you've made a bunch of VW friends, that's cool too!

Re: '76 Westy
Scrounged some retractable seat belts off a Jetta at Pull-a-Part.
Having her as a literal daily driver for a few weeks, it feels weird not to be able to drive her right now. I really need to get those seat covers finished and the seats back in.
Re: '76 Westy
My wife loves to do digital scrapbooking. Here's a layout she put together that y'all might think is cool too.
Re: '76 Westy
Finished the reupholstering work on the front seats.
Installed the Jetta seat belts in the front.
and in the back.

Thanks. I couldn't have done it without the fabric you salvaged for me.dlandvw3 wrote:Those seats look fantastic. Nice job on them!
Re: '76 Westy
I found the cause of my fuel smell after the engine stops. The last fuel line was leaking right before the pressure regulator. I replaced it and the idle went up significantly. I assume because the injector rail is now getting up to a higher pressure. Lowered the idle back down and she's running better than she ever has before. Thanks for the advice Jerome.

Don't you just love it when you finally find, and fix one of those nagging little problems that you thought would never go away?

Re: '76 Westy
I topped the tank off last night and I plan on driving it a bunch to see if there's any improvement.
Re: '76 Westy
The mileage is up around 19 or 20 for around town driving. Much better than it has been.
I'm sure glad I drove her today. I'm finding all sorts of drips and leaks. Looks like I have to replace a bunch of dry-rotted rubber and seals.

Finally taking car of the rust on the nose. The prime focus today was around the windshield. Gonna replace the windshield gasket tomorrow.
