Did you buy it from a guy named Darren? If so that is one solid roller to start a good build.tronview wrote:Bought a 1970 Standard Beetle
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Last night I was helping a friend move a few things with my bus. All was going well until I was pulling back into his driveway, "SNAP"! Broke my clutch cable. Luckily I had a brand new spare in my parts box, so I installed it. Fun stuff!

Don't forget to buy another spare.

Yeah, I made an offer guess he did not like it!!!
As for mine, drove about 500 miles on Wens, and now enjoying the mountains and getting readyto hit he river fishing. Got maybe 1000 more miles to cover before I make it home and get started back on all the VW's in pieces at the house!!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
yesterday, i took apoart the turbo, and found it was completely destroyed. the nut holding the compressor side (cool side) wheel came off, and completely destroyed everything inside. I just happen to have a turbo from a saab 9000 lying around, and the two were identical. the only difference was the hot side wheel on the saab turbo is a tad taller. Well i made one good turbo from the two busted ones. and the bug runs great, if not better. the only difference i feel is it takes a bit longer to spool up (from the heavier, taller wheel), but once it does it builds up boost faster, and it went to 8 lbs of boost quicker, then the wastegast took over and wouldn't let it go over (its adjusted out as far as it would go). also i don't want to blow up, because i still haven't limited the advance yet

Thats a suprising statement from someone who has obviously put a fair amount of work into their car. Why do that with a car you don't like?
Just curious, but is their some particular reason you guys don't like supers? Other than being programmed that its the cool thing to do.............

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I stated the above because I would rather have an earlier car. I put the money in to this car because I got it so cheap. I am tight with my money and do ALL the work myself unlike other people. I wait till I find a bargin so I dont have to put a fortune in it. Don't get me wrong I like my car but would rather be driving an older one.
I say do all the work myself because anyone can save up money and have someone else build an engine, do the upholstery, paint, etc. I do it all my self or it will not get done.
Sorry for getting side tracked
My very first car was a 71 super, so I have some attachment to the supers (there all VW's)
As long as its a VW I like it, just others I like better.
Didn't mean to upset you.
by the way I corrected a little wording in the earlier statment to ease the tension.

Thanks for taking the time to put up the response. You didnt' upset me, people that know me, know I don't let others opinions affect me. Like I said, I was just curious to the reasons for your statement and I think everything in your post made valid points.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I have overheard conversations where people said they didn't like "Fat Chicks" and hated "Supers".
Myself I like anything that is nice and straight and clean. I especially like VW's that the owner did all of the work. I don't mean to say that I dislike VW's that guys threw money at until it was awesome. I just respect the guys who do most of the work themselves.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Looked at it sitting in the driveway all weekend while I worked on getting my '39 Chevy back together. Almost got the '39 in driving condition which is all I'm shooting for right now, once it is drivable and safe I'll be moving back to the 1200 build for the bug.
Oh and drove the bug to work today - wait - I do that every day. My poor '08 Tundra is starting to feel left out.
