Help IDing a 2 barrel carb on a bugpack intake.
Trying to ID a carb on my friends '64 that he just picked up. I'll try to get picks up this week. The intake is a dual port intake and has "bugpack" stamped on it. The carb is a 2 barrel carb with motorcraft stamped on the side and the numbers R-6309-3 stamped on it. We are needing to rebuild it but I'm not real sure what it is.

Can you post a picture of it? Is it a progressive or does it run on 2 barrels all the time?

I couldn't get any good pics of it tonight, got dark quickly after we finally got it home. I'll have him get me some pics tomorrow.

And before anyone says it - yes the fuel filter is being moved ASAP.

Looks like an old Weber progressive

it's not likely a Weber with Motorcraft stamped on the side of it...looks like the 2 barrels Ford used on the 2.3 Pinto motors. you should be able to go to Napa and give em those #'s and they can get you a rebuild kit.these are similar to a Weber and a Weber rebuild kit may work.....???

In spite of the "Motorcraft" stamp it looks like a typical progressive setup. You probably need this kit...

I've heard they work great for a week or so after you spend two years dialing them in. I wasn't going to say anything about the filter until I noticed it looks like it's on backwards and therefore blowing filter peices into the fuel pump and possibly the carb. Before I rebuilt it, I'd take it apart and blow it clean to make sure no filter remnants are in there gumming stuff up.

Threw some research we found that you are exactly right. It is actually a Holey 5200 with a motorcraft stamping. It was used on the 2.3 pinto motors. I actually work for NAPA (in IT, not the store so I it took me awhile) and I found when looking up a carb kit for a '71 Pinto, in the description it actually lists out the R-6309 part number so I'm pretty sure we have the correct rebuild kit for it now.
Thanks everyone for you help with this.

So either ford copied the weber carb, or weber copied the holley carb, as it looks exactly like a progressive carb. the linkage on the side, the boss that has that metal shaft, that that small vertical spring goes to to the linkage, the small triangular gussets from the barrel, to the bottom flanges. i bet the gasket set for both carbs are similar, if not identical.
even the funky looking gas line input casting on the right side.

Thanks for the observation. Will definitely do that.
