My 67 type 1
This was taken Wednesday morning when I bought it. (with my phone)
I lucked out, I think, on the timing. I was off on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was posted on Craigslist at 11:30 Tuesday night, I called them Wednesday morning at 8:30 to say I'm coming to see it. a 2 hour drive down to Valley AL. just to look at it. Then test drive it, sign the bill of sale, then drove home...... Only to get a friend of a friend to get his truck and car hauler later that same evening for the 4 1/2 hour round trip to bring it home.
(and my ex says I'm not spontanious....sheesh.)
It's the only pic I have until I find my point-and-shoot for better shots.
It needs a lot, but I'm happy with it for now.

Luv My '67 Dub
I bought '67 in May 2009! Won a bid on Ebay and drove to NC to get it. Paid a little more than I wanted to but I love my bug now and wouldn't sell it for anything

think we meet at bobbys before. Did you get rid of that 1776cc and put in a 1600cc engine. Glad to see you on the site.

You can make phone calls on a phone? I thought they were just for internet browsing, text messages, movies, books, apps, etc? What's this phone call business and how does that work?

Actually, I didn't say that correctly. I meant took the picture with my phone......
Ironically, right before I pulled into the seller's driveway, the wife called me and asked if I was still planning to look at it. (It confused me since just 2 hours before, I was on the phone with her and she was giving me her address as I was typing it in in the GPS.) When I said I was in the driveway she said "Oh....umm.... okay then". While I'm talking to the husband about the car, she came back out to see if I wasn't going to buy it, not if I was going to buy it. I said that I was, then she said ok, and then went inside. I was confused to say the least...
But she went back inside to call some guy back that wanted to wire money into her account to buy it sight-unseen. At first, I thought that they were pulling some crazy sales tactic, but before I left, she said she was going to have to take it off craigslist because of the amount of calls she was getting. She said (- in country slang of course )" I don't get it... it's just a little bug. Are they that popular now?"
To top it off.... when I and another guy came and picked it up with a trailer, the husband said that even after the ad was removed people had called about it. He wasn't just talking either, he truly was dumbfounded and puzzled.

Re: My 67 type 1
Well, people on Craigslist that "wanted to wire money into her account to buy it sight-unseen" usually just want your bank acct number so they can empty your account, craigslist warns that sales like those should take place in person. They're lucky you bought it, and they didn't give their acct number to a scammer.
Plus, it looks like you got a nice car to start with too!

My boss was one of those that called, he wanted me to ride over and look at it with him on Saturday but when he called on Friday they said it was already sold. You got a good deal on it.
Re: My 67 type 1
Well, FYI... I think I should have passed on this car. I didn't look at everything that I should have looked at, but honestly I didn't know exactly what should have been scrutinized beyond what I did look at. It would take too long to list everything so far.... so I won't bore you guys. Sure it looks solid, but it is far from it. But I will say that it is not a safe vehicle to drive. Sure, I can be negative sometimes, but right now it may be from a mix of the sun exposure and what looks to be some corn starch substance blowing around outside.
Today I have started on the braking system components that have been neglected for so long. Thread-locked some studs on the right side for the 5 spokes. I still can't find my dig camera, so phone pics will have to do for now.
.............And yes, the snobbish look will stay for the time being.... until I figure out how and when I will lower it. I was originally thinking just running lowered spindles. I have 5 inches to eat up in the front, before tire meets fender.
The front bumper came off to do the shift rod bushing, but even though there is more rust than chrome, it will return.

You were on the hwy 124 side of the hill. I'm on 78 side
And as far as problems with this car.....
It has the usual issues with any car this old, most I knew about and expected. rubber missing or cracked, rusty sections, dings and dents, electrical issues, brakes, interior, etc. Most of the welding that I knew needed to be done I was going to drive it out to Conyers where a buddy that has a gasless welder I was going to use here and there...
The brakes I did plan on redoing anyway - and should be done by the end of the day tomorrow, and I'm hoping Billie can help me with the wheel being perma-fused with the drum on the front. The bottom of the driver's B-pillar is rusted enough that the seatbelt is literally flopping around - but I knew that with a donor section it can be cut out and welded.
But, the biggest issue preventing me from jumping in and hitting the road without fear is more than I planned on, which I found out after using a jack......
The bolts that are holding the body to the chassis are lacking. What I mean is that the rear 4 are not there at all. The 2 holes under the seat were covered with caulking that looked like old Liquid Nails. The front 4 under the front that hold the "bulkhead" have been sheared off on driver's side, and are missing completely on the passenger side. The 2 under the gas tank are there. The pan to body bolts are all the original rusted bolts that were put back in.... sort of. The pan(cheap pans btw) to chassis welds are nothing more than a sh** job, but I knew that I would be taking care of that soon as well as sealing them. So, in a nutshell.... if in a minor bump in the front or rear the only things keeping the car from splitting in two is 2 bolts up front, some crappy spot welds and a few wire connections
I may seem to be complaining, but I am just venting about my mistake of doing more investigating it, and the stupidity of the previous owners. It's more like laughing at the PO's. I am committed to this thing now, and I fully intend on fixing these things as soon as possible so I can go pick up my kids from school in it (safely) and drive it daily. I'll worry about paint and interior later. I mainly replaced the wheels and tires because of dry rot and them loosing air.. but at least it makes it look better
Anyway... here are more phone pics to take a gander at;

Re: My 67 type 1
Oh yeah... I forgot to mention. The holes for the rear body to chassis are off about half an inch where the body is too foward Billie gave me a suggestion today, that was loosening the pan bolts and shifting it into position.... I'll get new pan bolts and do that soon...
And ....I am getting a head start on the electrical gremilins...- there will be no survivors. A couple of parts that didn't come with it when I bought the car. Check out the terminals .....

The '67 has a unique turn signal flasher arrangement, if you need some help sorting it out you can come look at my '67, it's got the original box in it.

If you need some parts, we just parted out a 67, heater channels in ours are shot, but we have lots of sheetmetal and other parts. lots of brand new front end parts. let us know if you need something we may have it cheap. call Shawn if you do 770-478-1342. It looks like it has potential, good luck with it man. Troy

Re: My 67 type 1
I may take you up on that and maybe reference a couple of other concerns. The electrical shouldn't be much of an issue... I'm pretty sure that after I am done with the connections, that the only voltage drops will be from the rusty screws holding panels together.Grifspop wrote:The '67 has a unique turn signal flasher arrangement, if you need some help sorting it out you can come look at my '67, it's got the original box in it.
I'll keep that in mind. The 67 in pullapart has a few panels that I want to replace, and need to eventually. It's a shame that they will scrap it with the good panels that I need before I'm able to get them. But right now it doesn't make since to buy them and have nowhere to keep them until I can weld them in, when funds should be going toward other items and repairs that take priority.ponycar25 wrote:If you need some parts, we just parted out a 67, heater channels in ours are shot, but we have lots of sheetmetal and other parts. lots of brand new front end parts. let us know if you need something we may have it cheap. call Shawn if you do 770-478-1342. I have to keep reminding myself that there are a lot worse out there that people have resurrected with success...
.... now where did that pre-approved Discover card application go...?
