New Set Up For My Type IV Empty New Set Up For My Type IV

As some of you have seen in my other threads I have a 74 Bay/Westy with a TIV, 009 cent/advanced dist and single Weber progressive carb. My question to you, short of a turnkey CS, what would you do budget in mind for a set up to maximize output for minimum/moderate input$$$.

Buy and rebuild an original set of dual carbs.
Buy a new set of kit dual carbs (Weber, Solex, etc)

Buy electronic ignition for my current 009 mechanical advanced
Buy a used single vac advanced with points
Buy a used single vac advanced convert to electronic ignition
Buy a used dual vac advanced with points
Buy a used dual vac advanced convert to electronic ignition
Buy a new single or double vac advanced with built in electronic ignition

Just trying to get the best bang for my buck without comprising my engines health.

Elecrtic points are a MUST as far as I'm concerned. Keep the points to use as a spare in case the electic ign fails. I've only had one fail when I tried to stat ic time it...a big no no. Other than that, they're great.

IMO the 009 works just fine as a dizzy. Thre are always comments about the "flat spot" which are generally true but I've been running the same 009 for about 10 years now with no complaints.

Single progressive carbs are very difficult to tune properly from what I understand. Dual Kadrons seem to be the best choice for a driver. They're easy to tune, very reliable, and allow for use with the 009. I don't know if they use them on T-IVs though. A J Simms is "Mr. kadron" and, although you'll pay a little more, they will be set up and jetted for YOUR engine if you purchase them from him. If' kads are not an option for the Type 4 then get a good set of rebuilt units from a reputable dealer.

So
Pertronix or other electric points
009 is fine
and Kadrons for carbs.

Just my opinion.

Magnetic trigger ignition module in a new vacuum advance distributor. Mr. Simms sets the advance curve based on your engine and carb set up.
Why?
This info is according to Mr.Kadron's site. The vacuum dist. eliminates the bog...improves fuel mileage.

I would buy a specific application carb kit new from Low-budget /aka Mr. Simms/ Mr. Kadron
Why?
If you buy used or rebuilt by a carb guru by the time you buy linkage, air filters, manifolds, fuel distribution block for used...for ten cents more you could have new.

I have talked to other and they have never heard of Kad's on a TIV. Anyone out there know of or seen Kad's on a type 4?

Looks like I'm going with a new set of duals and an electronic SVDA.

Solex/Kadrons work great, and they are totally designed for the ACVW, unlike Weber & Dellorto.

I am not saying other brands won't work, but Solex/Kadrons are just much easier to set up and "fit" the engine's needs the best. Couple them with the single vacuum dual advance distributor (when tapped for vacuum) for finest results.

I am a Kadron specialist, and evangelize them whenever I can.

Revert? Retrofit. April 1974 FI was offered on automatic bays only. Late January early February FI came on everything. I missed the boat by a few months.

ah.. I think i got confused- been a while since i owned a bay.

I thought i saw some fi wiring remnants in this photo- thought those plugs hanging down from the top right were for the ecu.

wht are those plugs for?

That plug hangin' in the upper right is for the dealer diagnostic computer interface...

The diagnostic box is just a little north of that white thing hanging down. That box, covered in some sort of paper tape is part of a PO attempt at wiring trailer lights. You can see the trailer plug just to the left of the box. And if you look to the right of that box you will see a wire with tape falling off of it. That wire was the umbilical cord to a huge bundle of wires.........key on, no power...........key off, no power..........not grounded.........not in the Bentley manual............cut it and the bus lost 5 lbs and 200 ft of wire. It was an old trailer, rear fog lamps, crappy light in the closet, 2nd attempt at a 2nd battery, old wires for a Radio Shack stereo and a few more unrecognizable PO projects.
