Nope the bottom adjuster is still a problem. I need to find a better tap for it. But I tapped it out and got the adjuster bolts back in. That's how I got it back up a little. It isn't the best thing but it is working.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Busy weekend on the '73. Replaced the ball joints on the passanger side. Adjusted the brakes, installed air shocks on the rear. Wire wheeled the floor pans and POR15'd them. Have paint on the passanger door now, hoping it dries enough that I can get the door back on tonight. Need the car for work tomorrow. Pictures tomorrow.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Bad cell phone pics but here they are.
Wire wheeled the floor and then seam sealed it before putting on POR15.
Got the ball joint replaced on the passenger side. Adjusted the brakes all the way around and installed air shocks on the rear.
Painted the passenger door finally. Car sits a little higher than I wanted but it is nice to be able to put someone else in the car finally without it sitting on the tires. And it's still not a bad stance.

I'll drop it a little lower once I have the funds to do it right. The way it is the front was only lowered with adjusters and with them all the way down it was putting the ball joints in a bind and road like crap. Once I have the cash for drop spindles I'll put them on and go lower.
I trust it to go to BAP but I won't be able to go my son plays football for Peachtree Ridge and we have physicals and some other stuff going on this weekend.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Started putting the interior together last night. Got one door panel installed, still have to make the other one. I hope to get the rest of the seat covers on, the other door panel, and carpet in this weekend so it will be ready for the Peace, Love, and Bugs show.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Got the seat covers on, the carpet in and my other door panel made. Still need to do something with the headliner but other than that it's pretty much done.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
cant wait to see it- you just stretching the old door panel material on new masonite?

Yeah, the old door panel backing was all rotted so I used 1/8th inch hardboard and stretched the old material over it.

Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Vw sure did FAIL when they designed that front apron. Its soo easy to bend, and get out of shape. I don't think i've ever seen a super with the front aprond 100% straight, lol. i mean, you can bend the damn thing with your hand, lol. thats how i got mine straightened out . you would think they would have put a thick metal rod on the inside lip, or something lol.

Re: 1973 German Look.....?
that one was actually straight until I had a semi tire blow right in front of me and could not avoid hitting it. Pretty sure my others are straight actually, but yes they are super flimsy.actually there is a plate that goes there but I think its only on imports and those that were to get dealer ac

Fantastic Job!
Thanks Bob. Saving for some drop spindles for the front. Will actually have a complete beam built for the front as the one that is on it now has adjusters that are stripped out and barely holding.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
bah!!
who needs adjusters anyway!
*note, this look was NOT intentional. in athens we like to party hard. and apparently after the Dawgs suffered an embarassing defeat, some asshat decided to take his aggression on me as i drove by. he picked up a manhole covor and threw it at my car. but my deer-aversion training techniques (aka ninja skillz son) spotted the sudden movement and i slowed enough to merely ramp said manhole cover. now, everyone ive told about this has asked why i didnt hop out and lay the smacketh upon him.

unfortunately Archie was not available. so i went home. and cried.

Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Well, I'm finally about done collecting parts and putting together the engine that I want to run in my '65, I'm going to put it into this car for now and get it broke in. It's a 1200 block, with 83mm pistons/jugs, 1300 dual port heads, engle 100 cam, and dual baby webers.

Re: 1973 German Look.....?
Check you firing order before you try to crank it. Looking at the picture, the dizzy appears to be 180 degrees out. Condenser is usually located at the 11:00 position. Just check it.
Looks fantastic !!! Love the color!

It is 180 out that's why it is like that. The dizzy gear is in 180 out and I didn't know until I got to adjusting the valves and really didn't feel like tearing it all the way down again.
Re: 1973 German Look.....?
I have the tool to remove the drive if you feel like doing it one day. Just let me know and we can try and meet up.. Take care and keep on keeping on. Looks great

Cool. So with the tool you can remove the drive gear without taking the case back apart? I was not aware of that. I'm off all next week. Maybe I can come over your way next week if it's cool with you.
