Yeah I'm thinking on putting the Havoc on the Dyno and see what's really going on with it.

So I was looking at the registration form for the Dyno. It had a line "RPM to turn on Dyno". I know jack squat about dyno's, what is the typical RPM they run on these things. Does it depend on the engine size and tranny??? I've heard of some VWs turning 6-7k, but I don't think mine would take that. Just cruising around I hardly ever get over 3500.

You want to pick a max rpm range for them to stop you at. most of us will never see 6-7 grand in our cars unless at the track. i would think 4500 would be a safe range as most power is made thru mid range 2500-4000. i am sure someone on here will dispute me so let me just go ahead and say i am not an expert!

Anyone else have any input? I guess if one more person has some input we can compare notes and come up with some kind of close answer. Not that your wrong bro.

Thanks David. If I do it, I'd probably go somewhere in the 4000-4500 range. I guess they don't really hold it there too long. Last year it seemed like they got real high but only held it for a short period of time.

Re: Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown #9 Mar 13/14, 2010 (GA)
I'd get him strapped down, tell them 4000 and I'd freakin brake something. I'm sure of it! Thats the way my luck runs, you see what happened to Mike's new ride, dropped valve. That should of been me! I've grabbed second a few times but if I keep doing it it will come back to Haunt ME!
I'd love to run him but my carb is so screwed it runs fine but to really get some good numbers I need a better carb. He'd probably pull a 50-60 number!

yeah, that is my issue too. Carb is a p.o.s. It idled pretty bad on the way home today. Hopefully I'll get it running better tomorrow.

i would not turn a non counter weight crank over 4500-5000,if you have a good counterweight,8000 is fine, mine see's 8500 all the time
Re: Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown #9 Mar 13/14, 2010 (GA)
A lot of VW's have their own rev limiters, like when the points start to float, or when the valve springs start to go away

I am sure one of us at the Dyno can make sure that you go to a proper RPM for your engine. I know I couldn't tell you, but my husband Lonnie and Keith could help you out on that one.
Runs at the Dyno will start at 9am on until 3pm. Currently we only have a few that have pre-registered, so i will have a time for them, but otherwise we will have timeslots available all day. There will be a wavior from the dyno for you to sign before strapping your VW down.
Glad you guys can make it out! I was getting worried we wouldn't have but a few people!
Here is a little more info for the weekend...........
Just a few days away! Weather for the weekend is going to be SUNNY with highs in the mid 60s.
Details on the times to get in the track Saturday evening are coming. Waiting on getting word back from the track. Camping is free at the track on Saturday evening. There are no hookups or showers, but restrooms will be open.

There is a parking lot across the street to park in. Please park in there as there is not that much room around Reeves. If you have a VW, you are more then welcome to park at Reeves. If you want to Dyno, just see us outside at our table and we can get you in a time slot. It is $20 for 2 runs.

Attention! We will not have event shirts or dash plaques at the event! Unfortunately, things were NOT in our favor to have these done in time for the event. We are as much disappointed as you are, but not too much we can do in such a short time.
Past event plaques will be for sale at the registration table though.
Don't forget to turn in your door prize tickets at the registration table. We will be calling them out all day for prizes we have gotten from our sponsors.
DON'T FORGET THE TIME CHANGE!

Good advice!- It's also a matter of what your valve springs can handle too- single springs vs. duals- duals can rev higher, as they won't allow the valve to 'float' at higher rpms. I've got dual springs, with a stock crank and red line (not a limiter) is set at 5000, that is, it was till that little red needle fell off my tac the other day . I've been told I can get away with six, so I save that for those oops moments when my foot is feeling too heavy, or I'm getting really annoyed with a mini trucker .
Re: Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown #9 Mar 13/14, 2010 (GA)
We have been running the Street Challenge for the past few years and it is for ANY street VW. It is all about who has the Fastest Street Car, but it is also a good time to see what your can do on the Street as well as the track.56HAVOC wrote:Does anyone have any info on what the 30mile street challenge is about. You will take a 30mile cruise around the track area, then as soon as you are back, be ready for time runs down the track. You will get 3 of those and then they average those out to see who is the fastest. Many times this class has quite a few cars that are just in it for the fun of it.
You can take a look at the rules below to give you more info. At any rate, anyone is welcome to join them for the cruise on Sunday morning, wheather they are in the challenge or not.
Vintage Performance Street Challenge
entry fee is $20 Pre registered
$25 day of the race
All entry fees will be paid out to the top 2 finishers with 65% to the winner and
35% to the runner up

Haha, as we were leaving the bowling alley, some person went to the candy machines to get a quarters worth of candy. One machine had some knock-off pokemon figures and that person couldn't resist. That person shall remain nameless to protect myself...I mean that person.
