Re: Heads down
Half ass paint on the pan, rough tunnel and it looks like over spray or direct spray on the fan. Did they remove the housing to paint or is this one of those "sprayed together" deals.
Re: Heads down
they def sprayed that together and it is REDICULOUS!!!!

Yeah, sprayed the pan with the beam, brake lines, emergency brake cables, etc.
1956 didn't come with a steering damper either, or a 1600, wonder if this is a "restoration"?

Pretty creative. Not the worst I've seen. Gives it that 50's Cadillac look in the back.

Re: Heads down
I will admit that I don't know a lot about pricing Beetles, but $30,000??? It seems as though a complete resto couldn't run more than $10,000 (I'm thinking that is what Joey at All Around told me). So is there a legitimate reason that this Beetle is priced so high? Or is the seller delusional? I have often heard that things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay, but this seems ridiculous to me.....

Re: Heads down
I'm no expert, but-
This car could be worth 'high dollar' (Numbers matching, desirable year, etc) but it is restored (all correct? it better be!), not OG paint, interior etc. -(as in a perfect, unrestored original). Just becuz you spent 40k+ might just indicate you have too much $$ to begin with! It is very easy to spend more restoring a car than it's worth in resale- ask anyone who has done it! I think Joey's opinion is valid- unless there is something REALLY special about this particular car.
The Samba is handy for price checking too- whats the market value/going rate for a clean, restored 67 ?

$8k tops. Its a car with alot of one year only parts. which makes it difficult to match up. which makes it expensive to play with. if it was a restored pre-58.... maybe $10k. maybe.

Re: Heads down
if it was something like that prototype 1938 bug in lithuania, then it would prolly be worth millions. or maybe a 40- early 50's split might be worth that much.
otherwise, the only other way a later model bug might be worth that much (i would think), is if its had some serious mods done to it. maybe a turbo motor, air bags, 10K watt sound system, top notch EVERYTHING, etc. then maybe it would be worth that much just because of the extra stuff. anyone ever see that really nice turbo bug on hot VW's about a year or two back? That thing had an autocraft case, turbo EFI, stainless steel hoes running everywhere with AN fittings, Air bags, 18's in the rear, 17's up front, stock gas tank has regular gas on one side, and race fuel on the other, etc. Every square inch of that car was perfect in everyway. i'm sure that was worth more then $30K.

Re: Heads down
If you're paying someone to restore your Bug, and not doing the labor yourself, your gonna spend some serious dollars. Engine, transaxle, suspension, pan, brakes, bodywork, paint, interior, glass, rubber, it all adds up quick. Most of us only sub out the work we can't do, like paint and some interior stuff. I'll bet the guy selling the 30K '67 never turned a wrench on that car!
