Re: Heads down
Speaking of "can drive it home",,,,, I was told that by this guy too. Nice guy though.....
http://athensga.craigslist.org/cto/1622830336.html
I saw this one in person before I purchased my 67.
If you read the add, I disagree with a good bit of it.
spare tire well is rusted through, it's been resprayed a long time ago (looks like OG color, but clearly it has been), the paint is bubbly with cancer in a lot of spots, most of the rust that you can see is pitted badly, front has been tapped, the front fenders are from another car(I had to show him that the reason I knew is because the full underside of them are ......RED ), seat vinyl is red... with the added tone of GA red clay all over them, 1600 in it now - I guess the 1300 that was in it never did crank like he said it would, it was 6 volt electrics - I just hope he remembers what is needed to convert, and I see he is no longer is claiming himself to be the 3rd owner on the add - that's good
........but hey, the rubber all over the car IS the original rubber, as well as the dash speaker.......there was more but..... anyway....
OH. The most coolest thing that I never knew that was available on VWs after the ovals was on this one. It still has the front fresh air equipment like the plastic fender vent tubing and the block offs in the kick panels. That is awesome. no, really. I was loving that.
in my honest opinion, even after all the repairs/upgrades since I saw it, still not worth the original asking price of $2k
if you recognize it.... then you must have been at Tim's during the several years that he had had it for sell, and no more history of this car than.....
....... He was a nice guy, really.

Sounds like you are talking about empi univents. There is a 67 around Newnan that has them. I have read they work fairly well for letting a breeze up your shorts in the summer.

Re: Heads down
Wheres the car that comes with it???
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/pts/1739755154.html
I don't know, it's been a while since I've priced "New" engines, but $3800 for a new 1641 seems a bit steep. Doesn't even have dual carbs. My first thought was that he just forgot to take pics of the car that comes with it.

Re: Heads down
Frog, ( the gentleman with the engine,)
Is an interesting individual, I stopped by there last winter to look at a '63? beetle that he had.
It had lotsa "patina" and was missing alot.
He wanted like $3K for it.
I think he prices high with the intent of being talked down, but on that beetle he was pretty firm.
I'm surprised no one on here from Cartersville has commented about him.
I felt like I was at the Deliverance film lot when I was there.
As for the car that comes with it, he likes to cut up VW's to make trikes out of the back ends of them...

Ive been there. I remember Frog. There are two of them that live in that, ummm....neighborhood that builds those trikes. They will cut up a bug without hesitation. I was looking at a high top camper, but after talking for a few and them telling me what went on in those campers, There is no way.

I looked at both hightops. His was red I think, and he said the engine was built, but I had no idea if he really knew what he was doing or not.

I do not care if you went broke paying someone else to restore your "find,"
That still doesn't make it worth $15K UNASSEMBLED.
The crack addiction is spreading!
