Here is a shot of the POR the heater channels seem solid so Im not planning to pull the body off the pan.

Im working on getting all the right finders. both fenders on the drivers side where the wrong ones. I cut the damaged apron off and replaced it with one from WW.

I also cleaned up the gas tank and PORed it. Nickel plated the jack.
I got a front fender that needed some work. Im not the best welder but Im getting better.

after I grinding down the welds.
I also welded up one of the antenna holes as Im changing the style.
I have more but im out of time for now.

Over the weekend I got a lot of the holes under and on the dash welded up. The holes where not factory but from alarm and radio installs.

Sounds like you are plugging along! When are we going to see you riding around?
Re: L390 1962 De Luxe sadan with Sun Roof
I hope in the spring . Depends on if I have it painted or try it my self in the spring. Right now I'm just working on it when I can. I don't like sanding indoors so nice days are few and far apart. I'm also thinking of pulling the body but I'm not sure its going to happen just to change the body seal. What's your opinion on the 200mm 6volt flywheel on a 12 volt system. I'm looking at one on the samba but it been lightened?

Re: L390 1962 De Luxe sadan with Sun Roof
Yeah I hate sanding period! Does the car leak at the seal now? What size engine? If the car is already 12 volt I would just run a 12 volt flywheel and clearance the bell housing if needed and use an auto stick starter with the self supporting shaft so you dont have to worry about a starter bushing.
Re: L390 1962 De Luxe sadan with Sun Roof
No it don't leak that I know of but I only had it on the road a few months. I'm putting a 1600 in. The PO had 12 volt starter in the car. I thought something was wrong with the starter but when I pulled the engine it had a 6volt flywheel ? It had chewed the teeth up pretty good

If the car doesn't leak at the pan gasket I would leave it together if the the only reason to pull it apart is to replace the gasket. I have known more than a few cars to leak with new pan gaskets.
Re: L390 1962 De Luxe sadan with Sun Roof
Good point. That will save me some time. Today I got a stud welder from harbor freight to try to fix the rear apron.

I pu;;ed as much of the rear apron dent out as I could.
The inside door dent pulled out great.
I also got the light holes for the marker light drilled
I drilled the holes for hood emblem and trim

Ive also been trying to decide to try to paint it myself or find a shop to do it.
I also got a set of pop outs ! I got a set of aftermarket rear fenders also, as I could not find a set that matched.

Here some pic's of the clip I got from Bryce and where im making my cut's I am open to any better ideas. [img][/img]
Here is the clip I plan to install. I have been doing a lot of late night measuring. Im using a laser level with three marks to line it up. Two marks on the inside and one on the outside to make sure im at the same angle on each side. [img][/img]

I saw this thread and will probably be doing Gordon's clip something like this..... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=610789&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=front+clip
Re: L390 1962 De Luxe sadan with Sun Roof
I saw that one I thought about it. Mine may be a combination of the two. I may cut the side sheet metal long to mark on the car.

This morning I got this jig made up. Picks up all four tank bolts
I was surprised it fit in the damaged front clip. I had pulled it out before I took the pic.

Today I made some templates out of aluminum For the fenders so I don't have to put the fenders on and off so much.
