Anyone intrested in meeting up!?

Anyone from the area wanna meet up sometime? The weathers getting awfully nice out! Im hoping to have my 78 transporter going by this weekend or ill drive my baja either one? Was thinking of hitting up the ellijay arts festival saturday that would be a cool place to meet up and chill.  

If you're free next weekend you should hit up the Athens VW club's Poker Run. Goes through the mountains of north Georgia.

Shoot yeah Ill check it out. If I can get mine good enough to drive that far lol. Is this group not that big or the guys in north ga not active on the forum?

I am up for a get down @ Dalton, Chatsworth or Calhoun.
Working a deal on a set of T-Backs for the Ghia this saturday, so it'll be a no go this weekend.
I wish Al Johnson had space to accomodate a cruise in.
Perhaps we could light down on one of the food chains on either side of the dealer.
Could get some sponser goodies...
I'll drop in and hit him up, he is a curmudgeon-ie old fart though...

The SCVF is in Chattanooga and siphons off a lot of enthusiasts in the N.W. GA area.

Oh ok I see. Im faily new into the older vdubs about a year n a half. But I just recently bought a 78 trasporter so im ready to hang out with other guys or groups lol. Downtown would be perfect IF we had enough people. We even have a vw shop downtown!

I know Lamar would not mind if we parked on the street after hours.
There used to be a free cruise in on that street a few years ago that was put on by either the VFW or the Lions, it was an all makes show and was well attended. The sponsoring org. dropped it because it was too much of a hassle. This was a monthly show on the 2nd Saturday if I remember. The few times I drove through there were 50+ cars attending.
The precedent is there, we could probably resurrect it, but it takes a lot of work that I just do not have the time to do by myself.

Yeah I had a 71 split camaro back when that show happned. Loved it. Im down to help in any way. I just dont know the people who drive these cars or who would come out one weekend and do a cruise in. Id just like to see a nice commmunity of us. When I was in central south carolina sunday to get my trasporter there was a small show at the vw parts store there. Prolly 15 samba's there and total about 30 cars. Pretty impressed for such a small place. We need that here!   

If we were to plan something, I am SURE we could pull some of the SCVF members back down to Dalton for a cruise in.
The SCVF are tight with Village VW in Chattanooga (major sponsor of BAP) and are Gun shy about even visiting Al's Dealership or communicating with him.
I have been by in the Ghia, a couple of Bugs and a van or 2 to the dealer to drop off or pick up my wife's van or my wagon or GTI for service and Al loves old VW's and always asks about them.
I will try to see if he is interested in possibly sponsoring a VW show on the strip in downtown Dalton.
We could realistically get probably 30+ VW's from just the local population of VW's if we advertise and pick a weekend where there isn't a major show (hard to do now). If we planned an October or fall cruise in there are fewer events, but risk of foul weather is higher. I believe we could pull this off, and even get some publicity from the Dalton Chamber of Commerce if we plan far enough out.
Some of the Brethren from the GA Dubs clubs might even Trek up if we do it right.

Awesome let me know what I need to do to help or where to start lol. I see a few parked at a carpet mill in chatswoth every morning on my way to work I can stop in there and ask who drives them lol. And I know maybe 2-3 more people that would come. I just like seeing everyone diff ideas and styles. Thats what I like about the old vdubs. Ive never been to the vw sdealer here in dalton ill have to check it out sometime!

Here is the map and the stops. We leave Helen a little after 10:00 typically and then we go to Cornelia and eat at Fender's Diner. It is hard to predict the time we will arrive at any one of the stops.
The second stop is the Clarkesville Antique Mall and sometimes that stop runs a little long.

You have a T4 right?
Do you still have the timing strip (metal), just above the crank fan?

T4 yes but no timing strip. Only one mark on the pulley also.

Go over to Alvin's and find a timing strip.
It will be WAY easier to time.
Even if the strip is damaged (no paint)you can usually see enough of the marks to remark.
