oil fill removal???
l. Allright probaly a dumb question but i sprung a leak on my filler. Its right below the oil fill cap below the joint where the two halves meet on the filler/ breather. I assume the generator stand is cast alum and this top piece it Not? Well i bought and aftermarket Empi "oilfll ext" . It has threads on the bottom. .
Soooo how do you remove the stock beather/ fill from the alt stand itself? Sorry have no pics. Cannot find out how to post them via smart phone. ( have no computer)
1973 type one. .1600 dual port with alternator. Stock

Re: oil fill removal???
There is a special tool to fit in the hole so you can unscrew it. Some people have had luck removing it with hefty needle nose pliers.

Re: oil fill removal???
I have one of those tools and they are horrible.
All they will do is ream off the grove so that you will have to cut it off (like I did).
I imagine that an air hammer set to low would break it loose, but I used an extension and a breaker bar and mangled the grove.
Just be careful, I am not the heaviest built in the arms and I destroyed the lock down ring pretty easily.

Re: oil fill removal???
Its got a hole in it so im not worried about destroying it. . But i cant afford to mess up my original alum stand. So its standard righthand threads? Big pair of channel locks and a cheater bar?

Re: oil fill removal???
Well I'll be.
That camed remover is the bee's knees.
I do have the 1st one and it is a piece.
If it is already holed, then just cut off the oil filler box and clamp on a big pair of vice grips and push hard and it'll come right out.
This is what I did to my '63's 1600 block.
