Re: The Mutt Bug
Been working on the Mutt lately and started off by stripping the chassis and getting it ready to cut out the pans.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Once I got it stripped down out came the old pans and also snatched out the torsion bars and spring plates.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Didn't get much done today but I did pull the torsion bars, plates, and caps from this old swing axle rear end so I can get it all cleaned up and ready to install in my axle.

Re: The Mutt Bug
You made those pans look awesome! Did you use a sandblaster on the pan before you painted it?

Re: The Mutt Bug
Thanks. No sandblasting just a lot of sanding and wire wheeling for what seemed like days.macollins105 wrote:You made those pans look awesome! Did you use a sandblaster on the pan before you painted it?

Re: The Mutt Bug
This weekend I took a break from the chassis and spent some time on the body. Got the molding, door handle, and fender holes welded up and smoothed.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Little more progress this weekend got some engine pieces painted.
Started off by getting intake parts sandblasted and cleared them to keep the machined look.
Then shot epoxy on the rest of the parts to get ready for color.
Then came the color.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Not much picture wise but the Mutt is still moving along. The metal and body work is slow and boring for pictures but here's a couple just to show progress is still being made. Got the gas lid cutout and filled along with the passenger side door handle and molding holes.
Also found some old damage to the rear quarter which required grinding out a ton of old bondo.

Re: The Mutt Bug
The brown Santa showed up with a VW in a box. Now time to reassemble the engine and chassis.
Finally got around to cutting off my donor roof so now maybe I can finish up my chop.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Little more work put in started piecing the top back together.
Some more boring mud work.
Started going back together. Painted the jugs, tubes, and oil pump plate, and installed some bling parts.
Also got the motor cleaned up with a little acid bath.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Got the Mutts heart put back together tonight. Started by cleaning up the generator and clearing it.
Then installed the rest of the sheetmetal, plugs, and wires. Just need to clean and rebuild the carb and I should beable to fire it up.

I feel the same way. Clean and simple.
Plus, I still like the color of the tin.
