Re: The Mutt Bug
I did mine over the weekend, I got it all wrapped, with a 50' roll with lotsa planning and cutting carefully.Do Work 93YJ wrote:ASBug I did have to get into the second roll a little to finish.
I literally have 3 pieces left that measure out at about 4" total.
Note to anyone reading this, this is a BIG pain to do in the car.
Seems to be helping though, I could grab and hold the exhaust for like 1.5 seconds after a 40 minute drive this morning.
It was too hot to hold onto for long, but no burns or blisters.

Chop looks good.
You should just cut out the B Pillars and do one huge opening with no side glass like your avatar!

That is what I'm going to do. We just left the B pillar for now to support the middle section until we get it all welded back together.BKiller wrote:Chop looks good.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Not much of an update but my ADD kicked in this weekend and I tackled the haunting task of stripping the under coating and grinding down the fender bolt lugs. Glad that's over and ready to start smoothing up.

Re: The Mutt Bug
How did you work the area around the beam extension @ the front 1/2 of the gas tank?
Is it open or closed in...

Re: The Mutt Bug
Its still just open right now. Going to close it in with a removable sheetmetal like platform with sides so I can have a place to hold things. If that makes sense. I have the design in my head just have to put it to metal.ASBug wrote:How did you work the area around the beam extension @ the front 1/2 of the gas tank?

Re: The Mutt Bug
Still Watching your thread for when the Ghia is done....
I am interested in how you will seal up the area under the hood.
Can you take a photo of the beam extender area as is now?
I am interested how you jumped the steering over to the relocated steering box...
Are you going for an airtight seal to keep H2o and air from being forced into the cabin around the gauges and such...

Re: The Mutt Bug
Yeah I'll get you some pictures this weekend headed to the beach tomorrow. Haven't finished steering yet its getting close had to use 2 steering joints and cut a section of the tank support out.
On this car I'm not to concerned with having it airtight since it want see an awlful lot of driving I'm going to drive it some while in primer and if it acts like a problem I fix it.

Re: The Mutt Bug
My front wheels finally showed up so now I can get the rest of the tires mounted up and thrown on to see how it's going to look.

Re: The Mutt Bug
Yeah I hope to start on the front sheet metal work soon. Hadn't been able to do anything to it in the last 2 weeks since I went to the beach last week and then got sent out of town this week for work. Hope to put some hours in on it this weekend.

With work and vacation I haven't made much progress but I did get the rest of my wheels and tires mounted today and I had to test them out.

Yes I'm also lengthening the rear window opening to make it flow with the front so it should have a unique look.Grifspop wrote:Looks good- are you going to cut the post and make one big opening where the windows go?

Re: The Mutt Bug
Well finally got back to working on the Mutt. First got the steering mocked up so we could see how everything was going to lay out. Should workout great and even give me my clearance for my fuel cell.
After getting the steering mocked up I pulled all the body bolts and seperated the body from the chassis. I left the body at my Unlces to start metal and body work and took the chassis back to my shop to get the old pans out and start replumbing everything.
