Need help with Alternator Empty Need help with Alternator

Post by Brian68 Tue May 15, 2012 10:17 am

Hey guys I need a little help with an alternator. I think my voltage regulator is bad, it's putting out about 14.8v @idle and 18@ at driving speeds. It has an internal voltage regulator but I'm not sure where it is located in the alternator to replace it.
Thanks
Brian

Brian, I have a 75 & 95 amp alternators on my bug and bus. Since these alternators have internal regulators it is not necessary to use the stock voltage regulator. I recommend you take it out of the system. You will have to do some wire bridging but it will even out your voltages.

I dont think you can replace it, You have to replace the whole alternator.

If its an AL 82 you can buy replacement brushes and regulators for around $30 each.

Thanks Adam... I took the alternator off and apart last night and got the voltage regulator out. I didn't see any number on the regulator but I will order the Bosch one.
