Couple Product Questions Empty Couple Product Questions

Post by rpm750 Fri Nov 28, 2008 9:43 am

1. Is anyone running the H4 headlights on a generator system. If so product brand and any tips no power requirements. I want to install them on my car but I'm not familiar with the parts needed. I want more headlight!
FYI..(I think my Gen is 38Amp, wiring harness in excellent condition other than the oil hardened insulation in the engine bay)

2. I need to restore my speedo indicator lights. Has anyone done this and where did you get the film. I know to use the folder tabs but the ones I've looked and the green ones are not dark enough.

3. One last one. Sound deadening material, this stuff is expensive and I'm not sure if using the tar boards will be enough. I need to cover the tunnel and the floors.

I ordered the speedo gel replacements from WW. The sheet they came on had enough material for quite a few speedos. I think I still have plenty of if left you can have (I just have to find it). They still weren't very dark so I think I doubled mine up. Very easy job and shouldn't take any time at all.

I covered my tunnel with the peel n seel stuff you get a Lowes. I also have some of this stuff leftover you are welcome to have if you want to test it out. I didn't use it on my floor though cause it wasn't the easiest stuff to lay down. Works great on a smooth surface such as the tunnel, but is a pain on stamped surfaces such as a pan or rear luggage area. I did use it on the rear luggage area and am happy with it for the price, but it was tough to get in all the grooves.

Dad has the Summit brand deadening all over his car. It costs less than the dynamat and the stuff really works well. His super is one of the quietest VWs I've been in.

I bought H4 headlights and bulbs from (now defunct) vwbugzone.com and installed them on my 66 Beetle. The boxes are long gone so I can't tell you what brand they were and the receipt doesn't say what the were. I replaced all the wiring from the fuse block and headlight switches to the headlights just because I was concerned with power loss in between. I re-used the headlight connector and pigtail, about 3 inches of wiring.

My Beetle was upgraded by a previous owner with a 1600DP engine. Maybe someone else can comment on generator capacity? I don't know when and by how much generator capacity might have jumped.

I used the "foil bubble foil" from Lowes. Plus a can of 3m super adhesive. Light weight and very easy...cuts with scissors.

The standard generator puts out 30 amps. The standard altenator puts out 55 amps.

Funny that I posted this one of my new sealed beams has blow the high beam, less than a month old. I may move to upgrade.

What type are yours, do these just fit in a sealed beam like housing? Then it uses the Halogen bulbs?

Something like this.

Am I reading this right....

http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D7596
These will replace my sealed beam using an H4 bulb? The addition of the city light would be cool then I would have a running light along with turn signal all in the headlight bucket!!! Will they fit in the fender headlight tub with no modification?

This is something I'd like to go to.
