fluxcap wrote:I think it has to do with the fact that on a stock beam, the center is of the leafpack is held stationary by the grub screw. The center of the pack never flexes and stays stiff. The further from the center you move, the more the leaf pack twists and weakens over time. Therefore if you cut the same amount off of each end, the flex/wear on each end will be the same. If you only cut one side, the uncut side would probably be weaker and sit a little lower. The side you cut will be closer to the original center of the leaves and probably be a little bit stronger.
Exactly!!

You got it Flux but....
.....you have got to move it back to the center. The adjuster wouldn't be off to the side, it will be in the middle. Thus the same twist, flex call it what ya want the adjuster will need to be in the middle, if it is it should be balanced. Basically where ya cut the slot and weld the adjuster bracket is the new center of the beam.

yes everything gets centered but the wear on the leaf pack is now not the same from side to side...

Wow that's narrow, mine is 4" and I want to build another one using shocks, it's a rough ride without them.

I replaced the top and bottom leafs, the ones that are split with 2 solids in each tube. All my leafs are one peice, hoping that helps a little.

Done!
Some advice, to get the leafs back in easier, clamp them tack the ends, grind a chamfer on all four sides then tap.
After its in, mark it and cut it. So much easier
