What do you all use/do for a tow bar when you have a narrowed beam?

Lowboy trailer with a good winch. Would never use a tow bar on a narrowed beam vdub. Or a nice tow truck

When you narrow the tow bar, where are you cutting it at? I did it once in the past, created some extra bracing for it and welded it up, but never felt to confident in it holding very well.

Re: Narrowed Beam Tow Bar
I had to narrow my tow bar because of a baja bumper that bolted just inside of the shock mounts. I cut a section out of the cross bar in the center between the two arms and used a ratcheting tie strap to pull it together, the arms twisted a bit and the crossbar formed a peak because of the twist but it narrowed it enough to get it on. I'm not worried about it at all even with no extra bracing. Mine was like this. It is now narrowed to 22 1/2 inches1SICGHIA wrote:sploval53:

Cut in the center brace and also cut the two pieces from the hitch we sleeved where ever we cut and welded it back together

Thanks! That is definitely better than the way I did it as a kid. Now I need to find a tow bar to hack up.

Re: Narrowed Beam Tow Bar
I bought the tow bar off Kale and narrowed it the other night just the way you suggested. Worked out great and took no time at all.pwmcguire wrote:I had to narrow my tow bar because of a baja bumper that bolted just inside of the shock mounts.
