Thx Mike, the camper idea's tongue weight appears to be too heavy for a Ghia to carry, so I'm building Ver 1.0 on a Type3 subframe rather than hacking a pan (less fab work). It'll start as a pusher rather than a generator trailer, refine the mechanicals and tongue length, then move on to a build with a Ghia rear shell. I've already pulled a genset, but would need several thou$ more in electronics to use a genset large enough for continuous highway operation.

I see what you mean about tounge weight. On my 72 super I had a beefy home made hitch that bolted to the body in place of the bumper. I installed a set of those inflatable air shocks which helped to keep it from bottoming out. I've hauled my 2200lbs pop up camper with it (bout a 400 lb tounge weight). It's not normally that heavy, but some jack ass built a heavy wooden table inside it :/. (Btw, had a 2085cc stroker motor when I pulled it)

It had more supports welded underneath it as well.

This was with the air shocks installed. Only had to inflate to about 75 psi IIRC, 120 is the max.

Thanks Mike that is on HD hitch! Mine Is a standard step bumper bolt on receiver that I welded brackets to which pin on to the Gene Berg rear tranny mount. The 2 inch tube extends forward to a tab under the front tranny mount that distributes the weight through my truss bar system and keeps it off the body while not torquing against the rear tranny mount bolts.
Here's some details on the build and the next link is a photo of me pulling the genset.

Too cool! -wipes drool off screen-
XD

Has the powered trailer thing been done before? I wonder how such a thing would effect handling on the car. It seems like the perfect alternative if you have several project cars. Instead of buying several motors, you just need one, for all the cars, lol. I can't help but wonder if that's somehow illegal in some way? I mean it's technically illegal to put rims on your car, or HID's, but no one cares. Hmmm.....
