Anyone got a trailer
Cause my tow bar may not work. I was just wondering if anyone would let me borrow it if I need it. From what I believe oil cooler seals blew on the way home from school

Re: Anyone got a trailer
I have one. Its a homemade job but it works. I am in Zebulon and I dont have a truck to move it so you would have to come and get it and bring it back.
Just let me know

Sounds like an oil cooler leak if it's comming from under the fan shroud.

Re: Anyone got a trailer
We got the fan shroud off and found no leaks by the cooler. Looks like the breather hose on the oil filler got kinked and pressure built up in the case to push oil out the distributor shaft, alt. stand, and fuel pump. We plan to replace all the seals, check the pressure relief valves, and change the oil. Anything else we should consider or look for?
Re: Anyone got a trailer
A lot of times when the case can't breath, oil gets pushed out from around the crank at the lower pulley, the oil then hits the pulley and goes flying all over the engine. All those items you mentioned are right along the edge of the case directly above the pulley. Possibly this is all that happened, but I'm not sure how much oil ya'll were seeing. If it wasn't too terribly much and nothing else is sticking out as a possible source, I'd probably just clean it up, fix the hose, and give it another try (keeping a close eye on it of course!)

Hey Eric it's been leaking behind the pulley for months and I can't stop it I've taken the pulley off twice now so I have no clue now

Re: Anyone got a trailer
There is no seal there behind the pulley. The pulley is the pump that puts air into the case. The breather has a hose that pulls the air out from the oil filler neck and into the intake and the engine burns the oil that is in the air. It has oil in it just a little bit. There is no PCV valve like conventional cars. If you remove the vacuum it builds pressure and pushes out oil. Nothing like a stock setup and using stock parts. They were engineered for a purpose and use.
I'd clean it up make sure that the hose is clear and it does not have a loop or low spot because it will fill with fluid if it has a low spot. It should be able to drain towards the oil filler/baffle.
My car leaked oil badly and then I read on the Samba about case breathing and I went back to a stock oil filler and hose to the carb breather and it slowed way down. Mine leaked from the two case halves so oil sitting in the case would drip out. My engine now has no leaks at all and that's the way it should be!! Well a few drips from the tube that runs down from the oil filler/baffle.

Re: Anyone got a trailer
i agree with Mike, if it has been leaking from behind the pulley for a while, then there was waaay too much case pressure or too much crankshaft endplay allowing the oil to blow by. a sand seal is the only way to fix it.

X3 on the sand seal. Also if the engine was taken apart at some point the oil slinger may have been installed backwards.
Re: Anyone got a trailer
Well drove out to lindy's and got an engine rebuild kit and have spent the afternoon with dad rebuilding it and now heading over to northern tools to get a torque wrench. So maybe done tonight
