Ghia trailer concept
Hi all,
I had an idea last week and I just got around to mocking it up in PhotoShop. What do you think about a Ghia trailer? I thought it could come in handy on vacations and trips to shows.

Yeah, I'd have to find one that's badly wrecked or something. Would be a fun project...
Re: Ghia trailer concept
Might be something you could make out of fiberglass, you could knock some moulds off a Ghia and modify them. It's a cool idea, it's aerodynamic and light weight, and Ghia owners could certainly use a little extra storage.

Making a fiberglass mold is an excellent idea! Less chopped up Ghias and more people could own one. Now, I just need to find a fiberglass molder person.
Re: Ghia trailer concept
Well when you find a fiberglass guy let me know I got to get one that's sweet right there.

Re: Ghia trailer concept
Back in Florida I saw a guy towing around a squareback/trailer. I think he was from Gainesville and involved in the club scene down there. Sorry, no picture.

Re: Ghia trailer concept
There's a sad looking Ghia here in Ball Ground with a one-piece fiberglass front end you could pick up cheap. It might be a good donor car for this.

I finally remembered to go look at the car. Most of the back has been cut off, pretty much even with the back wheels. It won't do any good as a donor. Also, the fiberglass front end is now gone and the interior stripped out. Not much left other than a stubby shell since both the front and rear have been cut off.

Re: Ghia trailer concept
Greetings from a transplant. I towed my ghia project from Atlanta to WA state in 2004. There was a So GA Aircooled shop making similar trailers, saw one for sale in 2002 and have wanted one since. He was just cutting at the rear of the doors and putting a flat panel across the gap. I now have two donors with smashed front ends ready for the sawzall (sorry guys, they're so much more common up here in the hippy Northwest).
Has anything happened on the fiberglass mold idea?
Cheers,
Jay

Re: Ghia trailer concept
That's f'n bad ass. Are you still doing the camper/ generator thing you mentioned? I love the alternative powered VW's. I've been experimenting with running an air cooled motor off compressed air, or steam. If you start a build page, post up the link. I gotta see that in action c:
