1966 Deluxe
Was able to get out today and shoot a few pics. I picked up this 66 Deluxe the day after the Reynolds show. It is a former show/magazine Bus, was in Vw Trends, July 1990 issue. It was in storage from 92 - 06 and only driven a few times from 06 to 09. It needed a good going over and a few minor things done and there were some electrical issues to sort out, (thanks Tronview, now I owe ya twice!!)
I think the replacement of the headlight switch will correct the remaining electrical problems (thanks Splitties, call me or send your#)
Anyway the plan right now is to just roll it as is and do a few upgrades next fall/winter.

Yeah, the other day when I picked up the tag I was thinking about getting a YOM tag. Do you know if there are extra charges to get one? Honestly tho, this thing has been throwing me some many curveballs, tags are the least of my worries.
Still gonna try to have it ready by the 17th if possible!!

Re: 1966 Deluxe
Wow nice!! Where did you find that one?
I've been scouring the net to find any pics/info on it. I have been trying to put a documented history of it together, and I didn't have that pic!!

Re: 1966 Deluxe
New pic, removed all the dark window tint. (a 13 + hour ordeal) I like it tho, makes backing up a night almost an enjoyable experience. Also this pic has the roof rack that I picked up at Bulli Brigade in it.

Yep, I went thru 2 bottles of glass cleaner, about 7 single edge razor blades, and a roll and a half of paper towels, but I think it was worth it. There was actually two layers of tint on there.

Re: 1966 Deluxe
Recently located an amazing set of nearly NOS front walk-thru seats. Today I removed the scat pro-car buckets and was happy to find almost all the original mounting brackets still intact!! Trimed the carpet to fit around the original mounts and the new,old seats slid in lika a charm! These seats were found in the rafters of an old junkyard storage building and appear to have only been used very briefly.
All I am missing is the L shaped bracket that goes behind the passenger seat to support the right corner of the seat back. I will try to find an original one if possible, but it doesn't look like it would be very hard to fabricate one that was pretty close. This is the missing piece, this one is the driver side, which mine is missing also. The drivers side is not as critical as the passenger as the driver seat is one piece and doesn't need the extra support. (I will get/make one for this side as well for originality's sake).
*** Update: I did some more research and the drivers side L bracket would be for the earlier models. Since mine has a one piece adjustable drivers seat, there was not a bracket on that side. Now I only have to find or make one instead of two...

Re: 1966 Deluxe
Yeah the seat color looks pretty good with the existing interior. It would be a shame to recover them after surviving in this condition for so long. Here is a pic of the bottoms before a little clean up:
