New in the VW world
Ive been all over with cars, from Honda's to Nissans to Toyota's and back. I just bought a 65' Beetle, in ok shape, that was running when I bought it but it locked up on me on my way home from buying it. So now it sits in the garage til I can get the cash to rebuild the motor. I want to get in the scene once I do get it on the street but I also like to have a good group of locals to turn to. I will post up photos soon, you guys may know the car.

Welcome to the site! We are a laid back club that usually meets every month on the second Saturday except for show weekends then we usually try and do it another weekend. We have no membership dues and really no official membership. If you want to be in the club all you have to do is show up.
Re: New in the VW world
Well I need to show up first. To do that I need to rebuild this motor and/or buy a new one. But I have no connections on VW motors as of now. Whats in it now is a 1200 40 hp. I would like to rebuild this but if its going to be too much I might as well go ahead and do a 1600cc engine.
Re: New in the VW world
No need to have a running VW to come hang out. Most people just ditch the 40 horse engines. Since it has to be rebuilt I would just go with a 1600. More power and the price for the rebuild will probably be about the same as a 1600. I know Tim's VW in Austell usually has short blocks and long blocks ready for sale. May want to give them a call and see how much. (770) 941-7329

From one '65 owner to another, welcome to the VW world.
I drive my '65 to school over in the locust grove area, so it's possible you may have seen me at some point within the last couple of months. Post up some pics of your car when you get a chance.

Re: New in the VW world
I remember seeing the car on craigslist but I don't remember seeing it around other than that. Looks like a cool car and a good starting point for whatever you may want to do with it. By the way what are your plans other than getting it running again?
Just a side note when posting pictures from photobucket please use the img codes and not the html codes because depending on your browser html codes may not show up for everyone.

Re: New in the VW world
Well that's the main goal, might be a while before /I get it on the road. I cant find a good solid motor under $1000. Im trying to get this thing on the road again because I thought this would be a good daily for a little while. Right now, this is my only car. Other than that I want to lower it, clean up the interior some and do something unique to the outside of the car.
thanks for the heads up also
